Title: Judges and Prizes Announced!
Post by: Leon on 24 January 2011, 12:42:32 AM
We are proud to announce the 5 judges who will be deciding the winners of the Painting Competition!  In no particular order:

Nik Harwood!
Clibinarium!
Andy Mac!
Pawel Chrzanowski!
and Dave!

Each of the judges will be given 3 / 2 / 1 points to award in each category (3 points to the best entry, 2 points to the second best, 1 point to the third).  The points will be tallied up and the winners will be announced shortly after the closing date of 28th Feb.

So, for those who were curious, here's a bit more info on our judges:

Nik Harwood
Nik has been painting figures since the age of about 5 when he started trying to colour in the weapons on his older brother's Airfix plastic Afrika Korps; he made a decent amount of pocket money in junior school by painting early Citadel figures for fellow classmates playing D&D; his first 'proper' wargames armies were Colonial British and Zulus - done for a school project aged 12. He's not looked back since - apart from a brief hiatus when he was distracted by totty...his main interests are...multiple [& still include totty, 10mm or otherwise] :-)

Clibinarium
The name Clibinarium will be instantly recognisable to most people as the man behind our fantastic Late Roman and AWI ranges.  He is 33 and a professional sculptor.

Andy Mac
I am a hobby painter who enjoys both the researching of the units and the painting of the figures.  I started about 6 years ago painting 28mm ACW figures, my work was seen by Dave Marks who wrote "In the Name of Glory" Napoleonic rules and he asked me if he could use my figures in his ACW rule set " Honor & Glory".

I met up with him at Colours '05 and was introduced to war gaming proper for the first time, up until that point I had never gamed.  I had taken some work with me to sell, some ACW figures by Redoubt Enterprises.  Trevor Body from Redoubt stopped by the table and asked who had painted them.  When I said it was me, he asked if I would like to do some work for him.  Things kind of grew from there, I was approached by Magister Militum the following year, again at Colours and I did some 28mm work for them.  This was great I now had a self funding hobby, the work paid for reference books, paints and more figures.  I had picked up a couple of private customers along the way as well.

About 3 years ago started doing 10mm work for Magister and really enjoyed the scale.  One of my customers, who has now become a great friend asked me would I like to do both some ACW and AWI in 10mm for him.  The ACW being a mix of manufacturers and the AWI being Pendraken's.  I took up the offer and have not looked back since.  In the last couple of years the level of sculpting on 10mm has jumped in leaps and bounds. My view has always been if the artist can put that amount of work into producing the figure then It's only fair I try to do the same when painting it.

I have now had work in 3 of the main War games Magazines, some featured in articles others appearing in adverts. I am still and always will be just a hobby painter, if I am lucky I get to game about twice a year.  The best thing about painting for me now though is the friends I have made, not just in the UK but all over the world.

I do not have a Blog or a site of my own yet, may be one day.

I feel very honoured to have been asked by Pendraken to be a judge for their competition and I look forward to seeing all the entries. Going by the high standard of work posted on their forum, picking winners will be a very hard job in deed.

Pawel Chrzanowski
I'm 36 and I've been painting figures for 20 years... First were plastics germans 1:72 scale.
Living in Warsaw PL, the 10 mm figures I'm painting for 5 years are because of Pendraken, as we were looking for figures for the WSS but 15 mm were too big. I had some figures from MM (Celtic wariors) and I convinced Maciej and Michal to order some figures from Pendraken just to try... and now I have over 2500 figures!

I'm not a wargamer - rather collector.  I like to search for info about regiments and then do them in 10 mm.

Generally I also use greenstuff to give another look to the same figures or to do units that are not on offer.

Like Pendraken's ACW into Iron Brigade :) or militia units for ACW.

My biggest love is ACW
Seccond place is WSS
and third place is AWI BECAUSE OF CLIBINARIUMS sculpts wrrrrr...   :D

Now I'm working on 11th Virginia Confederates using descriptions or info from newspapers, books, diaries etc.

and finally, Pendraken's own...

Dave!
I started wargaming in the early 70's, painting Minifigs ECW figures.  Royalists were red, and the roundheads had yellow and red hooped sleeves!  My painting hasn't got much better!
I started Pendraken Miniatures in 1992, to fund my own hobby really, and look where we are now!  Good luck to everyone who enters!

Right then, the important bit!  In each category, there will be a winner and a runner-up.

Winners will receive £25 worth of Pendraken credit!
Runners-up will receive £10 worth of Pendraken credit!

:-bd

This means that if one lucky person is able to win all four categories, they can happily pop £100 worth of Pendraken goodies in their lead collection!

Also, we have decided to add a special 'People's Choice' prize, sponsored by 'Minibits'!  Once the winners and runners-up have been announced, ALL of the remaining entries will be put to the vote here on the Forum, with the person who gets the most votes winning a £20 voucher for MDF bases, Vallejo paints, trees, scatters, etc., etc.!

No, it has become a senate of running affairs that can make no legislative decision or otherwise be politically productive.

I believe that happened in 1831.

And I expect they're still debating whether or not it did, in fact, happen then. I love democracy.  :)

90 % of our laws come straight out of Napoleon's codicil and haven't changed since.
