Title: Greetings from the Netherlands/Germany.
Post by: Roel on 02 February 2021, 08:37:11 PM
Hello everyone.

Roel (pronounced as the English word 'rule'), Dutch and living in Germany (Wesel).

Have had a particular interest in history and wars since as long as I can remember. Grew up with Airfix and Matchbox miniatures, played a lot of Risk and later Axis and Allies. Collected Esci kits in the 80's. Experienced the 'dark ages' during puberty, nothing much happened in that period on the miniature front during these years ;) Long story short, more miniatures and material in different scales became available (or found them on the net). Love wargaming but sorry to say, more into Axis and Allies type of games.

Made a Crusaders game with Italeri miniatures but was not happy with it. Friend pointed me to Pendraken. Been buying a lot of crusader related miniatures ever since. After I've painted enough of them I'll start working on the game board.

Recently made an Arnhem game concerning Market Garden. Game board is ready but still need to paint the miniatures. Other project is a WW2 escape and evasion game with... Pendraken miniatures 8)

Too much to do, so little time  :'(

Hope to find more wisdom and pictures of painted figures on this forum.

Cheers
Roel

Wotcha!

Airfix and Matchbox - that's a path a lot of us recognise.

Pendraken is a good choice. Great range, and great service. Love to see pics of your Arnhem game.

You're right though, there are soooo many Pendraken ranges to buy from, and you may find an odd sort of wisdom here. Sort of a cross between Laurence Olivier on "World at War" and "Alice in Wonderland".

Still, a fine body of chaps. Join in, post often, especially pictures.

Post something in the competition.

A warm welcome from me, too, Roel.  :)

We are a fairly friendly bunch here; enthusiastic about our wargaming but we also like a laugh now and again, so feel free to join in. Looking forward to reading your posts on Roel playing games.  ;)

Welcome to the Forum Roel.

Your history is like a lot of ours. Played with toy soldiers until we got interested in girls. Then when we found what being involved with girls really meant, moved back to wargaming.

Some of us here are fortunate to have met women who accept our hobby and one or two even have partners who will play wargames. Fierce Kitty has a wife who is more than a match for him ( and probably most of us)  on the wargames table. Still at least he always has an opponent to hand.

Welcome again.

Hallo Roel, wees welkom, maar weet waar je aan begint, 10mm is erg verslavend.

As a side note, Roel should be pronounced like 'cool', rather than 'rule', I'd say.  8)

Interesting a YouTube search for pronunciation tends to throw up "Rule" or "Role"  sounds (ignoring the American/Spanish Roo-ell)

I'm sure accent plays a role. In my accent r-ool and r-ule are near indistinguishable.

Yup, cool and rule end in identical sounds as far as I'm concerned.

Interesting, 'cool' and 'rule' are pronounced the same (in English).

Otherwise, Welcome.

Depends on your part of England.
Those chaps in the North west do some funny tricks with their dipthongs.
I htink it may be a Nordic thing.

Welcome Roel,

I hope you have  a great time here.
I recognise your early gaming with the Airfix and Matchbox.
10mm offers great flexibility - just big enough for small battles, but lots of potential for mass battle visuals.

Your games sound interesting, I hope you'll be able to tell us more about them.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Also thank you for the British humor in some of your posts ;D
And a big thumbs up for the efforts to pronounce my name correctly or posting something in what looked like 'Dutch'  ;) Really, the Dutch was good and readable.

And already a confession! THE person who introduced me to Pendraken is Ace of Spades. Thank you for giving me another addiction which has resulted in even less money and even less time for other cool stuff like... Ehmmmm....  :-S Well, at least it keeps me off the streets so no change to be accidentally finding a brick in my hand which I accidentally threw at a hosptital or emergency services.

Pictures on painted miniatures and the Arnhem game will follow as soon as I have managed to find out hwo to actually post them.

Dank aan allen voor de warme ontvangst!

That's something !...Though I think the staff in most hospitals are still being run ragged. :(

The pretty map I look at every morning, is also showing cases per 100,000 dropping in most (all ?) areas.

Roel, you need to go to the image itself - what you put in your last entry appears to be a link to the image not the image itself. I'm guessing you need to right click one more time.

Got it! Thanks.
Tried to do it via de mobile phone. The app did not give me the option of the BBCode. Same program on lap top does give that option. Problem solved  8)

Thank you!

First attempt to make a game board. Did it relatively quickly due to lots of time in the past months. Trying to figure out how to make a similar game board but then a desert setting. I'll  :-B through the forum.

Pretty (the word is not too strong).

I've cross-posted this on FB as an illustration of what good terrain looks like. Is that OK? If you object, I'll delete it at once.

Always welcome  8)

The idea is to make 3 tables. One is now done. Need one for 82nd AB and one for 101st AB/XXX Corps area.

Much like the Close Combat computer game idea.

I made a table that fits the Arnhem operational area. It is more for an Axis and Allies based game using Pendraken figures ;) Size is 140 bij 100 cm. That way it fits in the car and can be transported :D So in short, no scale in mind.
