Title: Can you provide a photo of the Pendraken ancient Indian elephants
Post by: steve_holmes_11 on 27 January 2021, 02:45:06 PM
Appeal to any readers here.
I'm working on a proxy list for Irregular Wars
I cannot find photographs of the Elephants (With leader or with crew) from the ancient Indian range.
Can anybody help out with a picture so I can assess their crew, equipment etc etc.

I'm assessing suitability for Renaissance Indian armies (Rajput, Mughal, Vijayanagara), but willing to thrown in a bit of artistic license.

The mutiny "prince on elephant" is a lovely looking model, but I'm not sure I'd wish to field 4 or 5 of them.

Thanks

They certainly look ideal for Vijayanagara - but you might need to do some conversions for Rajput or Mughal (clothing and helmets for crew) and maybe armoured head pieces for the elephant.

Mughal elephants seem to be depicted as considerably more armoured, especially around the head - time to get out the Green Stuff?

Irregular Miniatures make a good 10mm armoured elephant. But as far as I recall the Vijayanaga jumboes were unarmoured in all the relief carvings there.

Thank you all:

For reasons I don't understand, this thread hasn't shown up on my "unread replies" list.
I'm extremely grateful to all who contributed.

Here's a quick conclusion from what I've seen.
The Ancient elephant looks suitable for the Pre-gunpowder southern forces (Vijayanagara??) [Hope that's correct].
I understand the Mughals introduced features like matchlock crew, armour and howdaws (including steel armoured howdahs).
The Indian Mutiny elephant sculpt looks good to provide some variety.
