Title: samurai project
Post by: Jesus on 20 January 2021, 08:09:56 AM
Hello everyone. My new project, samurais. They are unfinished. What do you think? I accept ideas for a better finish.

They look really good. The striped weapons are very effective.

With my Samurai I painted one or two pieces of armour a contrasting colour, as this seems to be common in pictures.

The yellow armour is very striking, but I've not seen it elsewhere, do you have a source for it? If not I'd suggest using it for a few samurai but not on Ashigaru

The evidence is beyond dispute for glossy black, glossy red, gilt, and rust-brown armour. Samurai breastplates could be fabric-covered, but this was not the norm. Otherwise, in earlier armies - and you don't get to use ashigaru in jingasa then - armour makes so much use of coloured cords that anything goes, but always in horizontal bands.

Hi, thanks for the tips. It is difficult to find real information. Gold or yellow, don't they look alike? Do we take them for good or not? I still have many to paint.
Hi Leon, I just found out about the contest and I'm already speeding up to be on time, let's see if you like it. :) :)

So should all the armoured figures be painted universally as black lacquered armour , with a few exceptions for red, and differentiated by the use of the mon?  A bit like Wars of the Roses dressed in 'silver' plate armour and differentiated by their heraldic banners.

For Sengoku armies, that's very much the norm. Gold and rust-coloured armour here and there, and some entire units were in red, but black by far the most common.

Many thanks; noted for my 6mm Baccus armies.  I am not planning on painting the Red Demons so everyone else will get black (gloss) lacquered armour.
