Title: No, not the comfy chair!
Post by: Duke Speedy of Leighton on 03 January 2021, 11:43:57 AM
As I'm building a 10mm Spanish army, I feel the need to sneak in a Cardinal to a command stand.
Two cardinals...
Maybe three...

I'll come in again.

Anyone got and suggestions (in 10mm)?

Look at the fantasy stuff, there must be something robes in there, although you will probably have to add the hat.

No one expects the wargaming exhibition! Our chief weapon is a lack of personal hygiene .... and a boredom inducing level of knowledge of a niche aspect of history  ... our TWO main weapons ...

We had something vaguely cardinal-ish done years ago, I think Phil sculpted it for a customer.  I've no idea where it might be living though!

One was based on the monks Mike has just shewn, one on a Ninja, and one on a heavily modified Irregular Miniatures SYW standard bearer.

Hmmm....It wasn't for the Robinson (?) brothers, in the States, was it, Leon ?.....For that rather zippy boardgame they did a kick-starter for.

Didn't they get the moulds sent over there?...In which case it will have gone forever.

Cheers - Phil.

I think it was TinyTerrain?  It was just the one figure that he wanted to finish off an army he was putting together, if I remember right?

Noooo.....The chickens are locked down more than we are, because of bird flu. They're not even allowed to put a toe outside the barn at the mo'.  (Poor sods......at least it's a decent sized barn.) =)

Years ago, on a holiday in Seville (Spain), I bought a set of 6 figures of Inquisition monks carrying candles in pointed masked hoods - all very Clue Clux Clan style - from a model railway shop.
There were 6 in the box - it was produced by a company called ANESTE DATANK - https://www.anestedatank.com/en/

But having just looked on their website it appears that they have dramatically reduced their range - as the monks are not shown, but neither are the very nice Spanish Civil Guard (or Nudist) packs!
However, these were marketed as HO Y N gauge - but they were closer to 15mm than HO. So they might be too large for what you are looking for.
But might be worth dropping them an email or checking collector sites - the Ref.No. was 4450 on the pack.

Cheers
Mark

A bit more web-searching and I came across this: https://en.todocoleccion.net/modeling-miniature/conjunto-figuras-nazarenos-aneste-nuevos-descatalogados-raros~x121845011
Not sure if they can be found elsewhere - they are described as: SET OF NAZARENE FIGURES

Would GRF56 (MP40, winter equipment) make a passable cardinal with a paper or putty brim to his helmet to make it into a galero? The MP40 would need to be trimmed or painted to resemble something less military.

I had a reply back from the manufacturer:

"Dear Sir,

Yes we still have that reference on stock. You can find it in any of the online stores in Spain that sell our products.

If you need help, please let me know.

Best regards,

Carolina Arranz"

So a search of on-line spanish model railway stores should produce the said figures.
But you have inspired me to get on with my own Spanish Inquisition command base for my C16th 15mm Renaissance Spanish
thanks
Mark

It was medieval  leader with a Bishop's mitre hat, shield on the back and a cross held aloft in the right hand. Craig gave me a few FoC and whilst a lovely figure, not suitable for a Cardinal I'm afraid.

Big Insect, very nice priest for conversion in the 15mm Blue Moon Italian Wars civilian pack.

Thanks Leman - I will check it out.
Somebody does a 15mm 3 Musketeers range and the Cardinal in that might also be appropriate.

I still don't remember that one.....I trawled through some old pics, and found a couple that I'd made for 'Tiny Terrain'......But then, I don't save photo's of every single model I've made.
Bad enough going through the ones I HAVE kept.  ;D ;D ;D

Well if you used a digital camera Phil you could file them on your lap top, alhough that would only apply to the most recent ones, 90% would have required etecing into stone tablets

I still find it vexing that the results from (a number of) smart phones give better results than my all singing all dancing digital SLR.

Fair enough... I don't set it up to its ultimate level....and use a tripod....that's too much hassle. ;)

Cheers - Phil.

One of the laser guys had an awesome bit of kit the other day, it's a USB microscopic camera which can get between 50x-100x magnification.  He'd plugged it into his phone to show the detail/resolution on some 3D prints he'd done at home and I was amazed at the level of detail this little camera could pick up.

I'd never had the slightest desire to have a cardinal figure until I read this thread, then:
when I discovered there wasn't one that looked like that Richelieu or Mazarin available I really wanted one.
So:
I obviously won't be bothering any of the sculptors or painters here, but I like him.

(how the heck do people sculpt things this small! My eyesight deteriorated rapidly and my fingers grew into Cumberland sausages the moment I mixed the putty! I thought 15mm was bad enough.)
