Title: Boy!
Post by: sixsideddice on 12 January 2011, 12:20:12 PM

I think I know the answer to this one before I even begin... do any members here know if anyone makes a 10mm miniature of a dog, ideally suitable to be used as a facsimile for Prince Rupert`s poodle "Boy"? I`ve searched the Pendraken Miniatures list, and in desperation I scoured the net (I like to collect Pendraken Miniatures exclusively, given a choice), but it doesn’t look like there is any company making a miniature of a pooch in this scale.

I`m loathe to try my hand at making a dog myself, as it would only end up resembling some kind of botched beast I fear. Any assistance in my quest would be gratefully received.

Cheers,

Six

Not got any poodles but might have a wolf pup or two, look at Kallistra's Orc Command pack for a piccy of them.

OMG really? What, Kallistra's Orc Command pack is a Pendraken Miniatures set?

I`ll go take a look now. At this stage a dog of any breed would be a major triumph for me.

Cheers Gordon :-)

Ah yes, I see. Kallistra is a company (I`ve not heard of them before now).

I`m still looking for the 10mm Orc Command pack, but only see one in 28mm so far....I`ll keep looking.

Brilliant - why didn`t I think of that. I would never have occured to look at N gauge.

Cheers :-)

Erm....  one more question if I may:

what e-x-a-c-t-l-y is N gauge. is it a close fit to 10mm?

There's the explosive dogs in the WWII Russians, code SV44.  Might need a bit of filing though.  There's also the mount for the Fantasy Hill Dwarves, which is actually a small pony, bit on the large size for a 10mm dog, but you might get away with it.

It's 1:148th scale over here, but 1:160th in the US I think?  Either way, it's as close as you can get to our stuff really, our vehicles are scaled to 1:150th on average.

it is EXACTLY a model railway gauge with a 9mm space between the rails.  Americans take this as 1:160, Europeans as 1:150.  It is also close to 2mm-to-the-foot as used by some British RR modelers  Most "n-gauge" figures are a bit slighter than Pendraken figures.  I think that is a style choice as much as anything, and  they can work together in some cases.  I have a few 1:160 figures mixed in with my Pendraken WWII for example.

For a dog, scale should not present a problem.

Thanks for that, most informative. I never ever thought of N gauge before, and may look into picking up a few farm animals and sundries.

explosive dogs! hmmmm, sounds interesting :-)

There's all kinds of useful bits and bobs in the N-scale market, especially scenery.  I've still not found any reasonably priced animals though.   :(

Thanks for that Leon. The fact I found a dog at all in this scale surprises me... but indeed, I`ll have to think long and hard whether I actually want to spend £8.5 just for one tiny figure to act as a mascot for one of my generals :-(

I am tempted though ^^

Wow, I`ll place an order with you for the above in the morning (if nothing else, it sounds a marvelous offer - and I do need the above mentioned anyway).

Thanks Leon  :)

GordonY, the pup in the pic looks kinda cool... really nice pic btw; but I DO like collecting Pendraken minis and want to keep my collection pure if I can (argument and debate aside, I enjoy complete collections, its just my thing*) but THANK you very much for showing me Kallistra.

* I do admit to owning about 20 Copplestone Orcs and the LOTR Fellowship personalities set  :-[ But everything else I buy in 10mm will be Pendraken (with the possible future exception to a few bits of N gauge ... its more than loyalty, I just like complete aesthetic symmetry - I`ve always been like that.

Cheers guys,

Six

They're the same figures Steve, Kallistra use our figures and cast them on strips instead.  There's the odd conversion here and there which we don't have though.

WOW!!! I didnt realize.

The wolves on the right of the last pic might just be usable (one of them) for my elusive pooch - a malamute maybe. Thanks for that Fred.

I just placed an order with you from MSN Leon. Your offer was just too good to miss  :D

There is a n-scale military group mostly interested in the intersection or war and RR modeling, but you might find a sympathetic soul there who would split one off a pack.
