Trajanic to be closer. A commission in 10mm Pendraken by Si Hall, the author of Mortiem et Gloriam. Shield transfers made to size by the Baggage Train.

Late Republic shields may have been colour coded by cohort, Late Empire shields are a variety of colours. Those Early/ Mid Imperial shields we have found are all, or at least mainly red but I'm not convinced that means they all were. The Dura Europos shields are very fancy and may have been parade rather than field issue .... or may not :)

Like most of Ancient History, we have lots of very educated guesses but very few certainties!

Did you have to cut out a hole for the shield boss(es) in the transfers (?), Will ?
With luck, I might have time to get the paints out again, soon.....and I've fancied having a go at some of these chaps.

Cheers - Phil  :)

Phil the only reason I have a high temp is the weather, and if I am hallucinating it would due to a much needed excess of Merlot of Stella  ;)

We haven't even got proper blue sky, here at the mo'......Muggy ?.....Yes.....But I've still got a sweatshirt on, at the mo'....(But I'm starting to feel a tiny bit on the warm side.)

Lovely ... weather and Romans both :)

Top lights all open, the barest of breezes wafting through the house and sun streaming in through the windows. Bliss. Has the weather forgotten this is Scotland? :)

Can't complain about the weather in SW Wales.......Nice and warm......NOT horrendously hot...Haven't even have to take the sweatshirt off.
Near as perfect (weather wise) as it could be.

Hope it stays like this for another 24 hours......Then we can go and see Von's Mum 'at the home', tomorrow...for the first time in almost six months. (Half hour visit booked)
I wonder if she'll remember who we are, after all this time.

Cheers - Phil

Beautifully painted as always, but I must admit to not liking the bases. Too much foliage for me at 10mm.

It looks like you use the same method for your US Airborne? Works wonderfully with the bigger figures.

Lovely work. The green unit has clearly mastered the art of camouflage. That's why they're in such dense foliage.

Lovely surface, but I hope I live to see the three mm thick brown-edged base fashion cast into outer darkness.

These are very very nice and it would be amazing to see a shot of them fully deployed.

I have to say that I agree with Fierce Kitty regarding the thickness of the bases.  I prefer to use 0.8mm plywood myself but understand why people choose to use thick bases, but please colour/paint the edges.

These look really nice! I wonder what flocks and scatters you use?

We have limited availability here in Finland, except for the huge brands. So would really love to hear manufacturers you use!

Also regarding the bases, i dont really see the problem here. Especially mdf bases I try to keep the dark brown outer ring untouched as it looks pretty good to me.

Also larger bases make it easier to move units around as you get a better grip, which also helps keeping your mates greasy paws at check.

I've got some plastic lipped bases which I'm going to try out, aswell as 3mm thick square rounded edge resin bases. Really excited to see what kind of different styles you can experiment with to represent your miniatures on.

Edit: "also" seems to be my new favourite word...
