Hello all
I wouldnt usually post w.i.p pics but felt lile i had to contribute something! So here are my meagre attempts at carthaginian army. Obviously the basing still needs doing. If anybody has a better way of posting pics rather than following a link please let me know because i dont like following links either!

Well....
They look more than damn fine to me, Adam.
Super job, on those ! :-bd
Cheers - Phil
Nice
Those look great!
You can use BBCodes to post images from imgur. You can get them directly from the imgur share links but I usually find it easier to just get the img url and use the img tags on the forum, e.g.:
All I did there was paste in the url: https://i.imgur.com/2I6Hcxy.jpg
Then either highlight the link and use the Insert Image button (above the :D ;D smilies) or type for yourself the img tags. I usually add a size in, e.g. height=800 or width=800, to the tag as it'll be too large otherwise!
[img height=800]https://i.imgur.com/2I6Hcxy.jpg[/img]
Thanks for that ill give that a whirl once i have based them. Should have warned everybody about my hands been part of the pic!
If you're using your phone you should have some options to crop and style the photos. I've an Android and Google Photos and it lets you crop down to just what you want in the photo and apply some colour and lighting adjustment when needed if there natural light isn't so good!
I'm sure other phones have similar options.
Unfortunately uploading from Google photo to here is a faff so I tend to use Imgur still.

Also for android is Add Text which lets you do lots of other editing stuff as well as add text.
Thanks for all the advice, im going to base them tonight and ill take some pics early next week
Does anyone ever go for the earlier Carthaginians - no jumbos, have chariots, citizen infantry a bit better? Or is everyone - including me - unable to resist Hannibal?
Ha! I have no doubt if pendraken made carthaginian chariots i would buy some! Not to mention the sacred band. Hannibals era is such a classic (no pun intended!) Its impossible to resist!
Agreed. Aren't we unimaginative wonks?
We should pledge to do a less mainstream period/conflict!
I have Ava Burmese, Nabataean Arabs, Andalusian Caliphate, Incas, and imperial Abyssinians. I try....
Good effort! Do you have a link i would love to see them. As i long term lurker i have seen your battle report posts but no pics ever show for me
You could join our FB group, Bangkok Gamers. We post piccies there.

Hi, Adam.
I wouldn't be surprised if you could see them,
now, if you log in, and then have a gander. :)
If I'm too lazy to log in, (and just be a 'guest' ) there are piccies that I'm unable to see.....until I actually DO log in properly.
Give it a go. ;)
Cheers - Phil
Cheers phil, that has worked! Very nice they are Fierce Kitty compliments!
Don't discourage him, boyo. We're always trying to get a few new members for the FB group.

Same here. ;D
I don't DO facebook either. ;)
Cheers - Phil
Phil - I doubt you could get through the registraion process
That would put the icing on the cake, if it's as complicated as that ! ;)
Cheers - Phil
I agree, FK should post some good quality photos of his armies directly to the forum for us all to see rather than pesky Facebook, who even uses that anymore anyway? ;D
Less recond of today's renaissance battle the better....
Let me guess - LOST AGAIN :D :D :D
Three in a row. This is getting serious!
OK, the empire struck back today, to deadly effect.
GOOD GREIF - you didn't actually win ? :d =)
These boots were made for walking today.
Hello all!
So finally managed to get my first four units based. What do you all think? Should i add some tufts?

Very true. Nice stuff.
Looking good ;D
Really nicely done!
Allow me to provide the panoramic view to compliment your zoomed in originals

Looking good, both at supersize and more normal size!
One suggestion, it might be worth painting the cast on bases of the figures either green or brown, so they blend with the flock a bit more - you can also try to get some flock to stick to the bases, but with the grass style it can be a bit hard to get them to cover the base, without covering the feet entirely!
Adding tufts is a good idea - the bases are pretty big so a few tufts break up the lawn look. Another option is to add some small areas of rough ground (sand, painted brown and dry brushed a sand colour) or small rocks. Again just breaks the base up a bit.

I was going to go the other way and suggest tufts might be over-egging it.
My basing (when I get around to it) :
* Build up a bit of texture covering about a third of the base (Extra credit if you manage to blend in teh figure bases.
* Blob on a bit of PVA and apply sand to about another third.
* Paint a hearty earth shade (Which varies a bit between armies to assist identification.
* More PVA and crass for between a third and half the base.
I find that contrast between grassed and bare patches works better than smooth grass or even variable length grass.
I'm one of those miseryguts who can't abide bushes, tufts or rocks following my troops arounf th battlefield.
Come out well
Thanks for the comments!
The bases are painted brown, do you think i should have gone with a lighter shade?
I have used the citadel basing paints when i was painting gw miniatures. I didnt trust myself not to get it slopped all over my miniatures in 10mm!
Ill experiment with leaving some bare ground and some tufts on the next base.
Next up should be carthaginian heavy cavalry, veterans, elephants or spearmen/peltasts.... still not decided what unit they are!
:-bd =D> :-bd
I'd second Fred's suggestions, blending in the figure bases and some variety in ground cover would really lift them
I like the bases - but then again I'm not exactly mainstream when it comes to basing. I added tufts of grass to my T35 tanks ... then ripped them off.
Sometimes IMHO "fancy" bases distract from the figures.
They look damn fine to me ! :-bd
Cheers - Phil
Some tufts and patches of bare earth would break up the uniform look, but still very nice work 8).
I tend to cram my figures onto bases more that here. Even my skirmishers are fairly closely packed.
Some progress! Unfortunately probably the last untill the rascals are back at school!

Still remaining are 2 elephants, a base of punic cavalry and 2 bases of skirmishers and a certain commander by the name of hannibal......
Ill be sending a order in for republican romans at the end of July

There should be no spaces in the height=800 clause, also better use 500, otherwise they are still too big.
Or for landscape style photos using width=800 rather than height works well.
Looking good!
Try removing the spaces between image and height, otherwise all look amazing.
Looking damn fine ! :-bd

Hello! Hope everyone is keeping safe and sane! Had some minor progress on the carthage front. Next up will be republican romans

Yup massive again! So here we have one unit of carthaginian cavalry, 1 unit of elephants, 2 units of skirmishers (thinking of using these as libyan skirmishers and the previous skirmishers as numidian skirmishers) and lastly Hannibal with a small bodyguard. I have about half of what i want in terms of carthaginian infantry and 1/4 in terms of cavalry and elephants. Minus the Gauls and Spanish. Im thinking of 1 base representing 1000 men or cavalry and 10 elephants or chariots. 4 units per 'brigade'.
Those look great. Well done.
Lovely work, they look really good, skirmishers especially are superb. :)
:-bd =D> :-bd
Lovely work once again 8)
Great work !! :-bd
Cheers - Phil
Excellent!
Thanks everyone!
Well it's been a long time!
Hope everyone is doing OK and keeping sane!

Close! You don't need the URL round it, just the image bits, i.e.
[img width=900]https://i.imgur.com/vOwoR7Z.jpg[/img]
[img width=900]https://i.imgur.com/bH6MLBZ.jpg[/img]

You can just paste the link to the image in then highlight it and click the image icon on the top bar which will wrap it, then edit. You can also "copy with bb code" from imgur for the same effect.
There's a guide here if it helps http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,20026.0.html
They look great by the way!
Good work, there. :-bd I'm also intrigued by the surface on top of which you've placed the stands for photographing - it looks as if it could be really good for naval wargames.
Thanks again I promise by the end of the punic wars I will have figured out how to post pics! The surface is just cheap black paper boxes from asda, I use them instead of really useful boxes
They look really good ! :-bd
Cheers - Phil. :)
