Some interesting ideas my ultimate aim is to do a campaign, i want every battle to matter and to make that decision do i throw my reserves in or save them for another day. What mechanism did you decide on for rolling to see if a lost unit returns?

As I wanted to keep things really simple Adam, I rolled a D6 and on a 1-2 the unit didn't survive. In other situations I might make it harder or easier for a unit to survive. I've found it makes sense to follow the KISS principle, keeping the mechanics quite basic, then making reasonable decisions as and when required. Hope this helps.
