Title: ANZAC Day 2020
Post by: pierre the shy on 24 April 2020, 06:35:40 PM
Today is April 25th 2020, the 105th Anniversary of the Gallipoli landings and always a very special day in Australia and NZ - ANZAC Day.

Of course, with Covid 19 there are no parades or dawn services, so they came up with the idea of families standing by their letterboxes/driveways (or whereever) at 6am to remember all those from all parts of the world who have served and not returned.

It was good to see more than a few households up and down our Grove turn out to mark the meaning of ANZAC day. While there was a radio commentary with the service that most people listened to someone not to far away had a bugle, or a good recording of one, giving a very good rendition of the last post and Laurence Binyon's famous lines.

So to those here who have served (and all those who are in the frontline today against Covid 19) no matter where and who you are, thanks for your contribution.

Also a good turn out in my street, no local bugle though

At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them

There was a lone bagpiper playing at dawn in Clarks Beach was quite evocative
