As with making unmeasured attempts to level a chair, I keep forgetting to carefully count the figures I need for various projects. I have just sent in another small order in as many weeks to get the right (?) figure count. This does little to enrich Leon (and the Pendrakonians) but much to support the Royal Mail.
Bill, I feel your 'pain'. I'm sure I'm like many gamers in that I plan a force, place order, receive said order then get distracted by another project. When I eventually return to the project, it seems inevitable that I've lost/forgotten the lists I'd drawn up and end up having to order bits and pieces for my new 'plan'. Twas ever thus?
Wha....?? :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
You mean you don't have a spreadsheet which lists the Pendraken catalogue, with pack size and costs, then as you plan your army tracks the number of each individual figure you require, calculates the number of packs and works out costs ... then when you buy a batch displays both the total number of pacjks bought and the number of packs required? The brings together all your projects onto a single sheet which displays figure count, quantities required and the amount painted?
With charts?

No. Quite simply no.

Yes, I know this pain - I've recently put some Tudor cavalry on painting sticks, and have no idea what size of unit I was going for, or quite how many units. I'm sure I'll muddle through.
Steve, thanks for putting the best light on it!
Fsn, I use to do but sloth is in full control now. I admire the many that carefully maintain such databases. To them belong the future...and a heavier purse.
"Historically, the amateur was considered to be the ideal balance between pure intent, open mind, and the interest or passion for a subject." (Wikipedia) :D
Great joy is derived from finding a small, felt-padded envelope from a Pendraken mixed in among the mail.
My approach is haphazard but now filled with more moments of joy.
(Btw - I still can't decide how to paint the bloody heralds ;) )

That is a complicating factor - my continual re-basing fetish often changes the number of figures I need for a specific base.
I also find that after painting a few different types, I like some better than others and order again to increase the former.
Often, however, it is simply a poor application of math(s).
I'm not the most organised of people, in the same way that the Sahara is not the wettest swamp, but when I buy a new army I'm usually so fired up I finish it and its opponents before I start anything new. I'll very often add bits and pieces as time goes on, but I don't think that's the phenomenon being debated here.
My problem is more one of project creep/expansion. For instance my current 15mm Italian Wars project started with a plan of just adding a Venetian army to an existing Milanese army.
This has expanded to include Papal States, Naples, Spain, France, Imperialists, a few units from other Italian states, Swiss and Landsknechts. This was before I had even finished the Venetians, I blame the lack of decent pubs in walking distance here in NZ ;)
Cheers
Ian
A much better use of your time & money ;)

That's your fault for living in the arse-end of south Auckland :p ;D
My standard method these days seems to be that I get a set of rules that are designed for augmented company level games, buy a brigades worth of troops for each side, paint a battalion of each and slowly but surely acquire the rest of the division .... and then play skirmish games with them .... doh!
