Title: 10mm fields & bridges
Post by: sultanbev on 28 October 2019, 09:02:57 AM
Hi all,

Two terrain items I'm short of is in 10mm is a variety of bridges, and fields.
For fields:
are there any resin pre-made ones out there that I can buy and just paint?
Or, am I looking at hand making them. In which case, are the N-gauge hedges a good option? Are there resin walls/hedges that don't end up costing me £40 to make a 4" square field?
Is foam board too deep or too light to use as a field base? Will mounting board as a base warp too much once it's flocked?
What is the collective hive mind at Pendraken forum using for 10mm fields?

For bridges:
Am looking for a selection of wooden, stone and steel bridges to cover for Napoleonics to 20th century. A lot of resin arch bridges for sale are dubiously marketed as 6mm/10mm or 10mm/15mm which usually means they are not quite right for either.
Any thoughts?

To go another route Hotz mats do some small field packs which can look effective.

Bridges is something we're lacking at the moment, I'd like to get some more done in the near future if possible, especially the earlier stone arch types.  For fields, some of the most effective ones I've seen on tables are just cut up sections of door mats, either the thin corded style ones for ploughed fields, or bristly ones for crops.  The latter can be trimmed height-wise with a pair of small scissors (or hair clippers if you've got them!) and they can both be given some texture with a blast from different spray colours.

Add an MDF base underneath and some hedging/fencing around them, and I think they look great.

Of if you don't fancy making them, this guy does some 10mm specific fields: https://takecoverscenics.co.uk/

I've rather given up with bridges, since they're never wide enough for my bases. Now everyone gets to use a simple jetty-like log structure without a parapet, from Horatius fighting the Etruscans to Monty not crossing the Rhine.

For bridges, highly recommend Battlescale

Also Timecast and Baccus for rubberised fields (they are the same items). I just paint dark brown and then glue (PVA) flocks onto mine.
