Title: Mexico again.
Post by: FierceKitty on 25 August 2019, 07:00:28 AM
Techno went to all the trouble of making them, so I suppose I have a moral obligation to take them out and get walloped from time to time. So here we go.   #-o :-< X_X ~X( :-q :-S :-S :-S :-S :-S  (quite expressive, some of these things).

I did cut myself a couple of times when I was making those...(No change there, then) ..So the greens did have some sort of blood sacrifice....Ought to help with these chaps.  ;) ;D ;D ;D

I await the report of Lee's victory.  ;)

Cheers - Phil

Draw. I blundered a bit in setting up, but did well in the middle game; then couldn't roll anything over two in the final stages, when the Spaniards were on the ropes; even their Tlaxcalan archers were holding out against (what was left of) the guards Mexicans. Fortunately she was already shaken when my morale went all wibbly, and both sides withdrew in the face of reports that the Mayans were rearming....

Pics will follow, when my tears have dried up a bit.

The big picture, part one: A strong conquistador right gets bogged down, though it's the Mexicans who drown even so. Don't throw in your heavy cavalry too soon - it never works.

Crossbowmen who have good swords, tempted to play with the big boys, instead of sitting tight in the woods. They learned the hard way.

My right was pretty successful, but after we'd swept the enemy away it took too long to get to the rest of the fight.

Nice looking game. I really must put my Aztec order together soon.

Your Aztecs look extremely nice - any chance of close up shots of the individual units?

This should take you there (and thanks for the compliment):

I'm sure when the more skillful painters here get around to displaying a few units, they'll look even better.

Lovely looking units. The bright colours are what make them so appealing.

Have my Aztec order prepared...just adding some other bits and bobs. Soon though I will have some of these beauties of my own... Anticipation :-SS

How are they to paint up?

Not too bad, with a few provisos:
1)    You need lots of these bad boys. A small Aztec army hasn't got a snowball's chance in Hell (a big one has got a snowball's chance in Hell).
2)     Black and red felt tip pens are your friends with many of the details.
3)     So is colour photocopying the more complex shields and just glueing them on.

I'm planning to do some pre Spanish action with them. Possibly triple alliance vs tarascan, but could also do plenty of the other wars, the tepenac conquests and subsequent overthrow, etc. So two smallish armies to start. If I ever do fancy going Spanish I can mix and match and add as needed.

Honour and respect to those who remember meso-American society didn't begin with Columbus!

Haha, I find ancient mesoamerican culture fascinating. I'd love to do some Mayans at some point, though will have to go to larger scales for that as haven't found anything in 10mm. Especially given the recent findings that they were much more warlike than previously thought. One for the distinct future though as just putting in an order that expands my two ongoing projects and starts up three new ones..

Actually 4 new ones if you include the 2mm order I made earlier in the week.

Wonderful. Sorry to have missed this before. Very inspirational (although I am tempted by some fluorescent paints I acquired to go down a more fantasy route).

No fantasy can live up to reality.

Unless you have Stegosaurus platforms to support your troops

If it becomes incredible, it loses the appeal of the best fantasy (imffho).

Despite the name, surely they are Triceratops?

There, that should have puzzled a sizeable minority of forumites :)

Lee is playing Candy Crunch rather than supporting her Lord and Master. And THAT, oh best beloved, is why she'll be making her own dinner this evening....

Mopping up operations. We caused a total of one element of loss on the invaders (a peasant slinger got lucky).

Owch. You clearly didn't make enough sacrifices to win the favour of the gods.
Title: Re: Mexico again.

We had little success getting the essential components for sacrifices.
Title: Re: Mexico again.
Post by: mmcv on 02 September 2019, 06:44:21 AM
It's hard these days. People tend to look down on it as if spilling lakes of blood for the gods is "immoral" and "wrong"... but how else do you think the sun rises every morning except for some healthy human sacrifice?

Give me that good old time religion...

Reminds me of the line from Good Omens:

Shadwell hated all southerners and, by inference, was standing at the North Pole.
