It would hurt less if a) my plan hadn't been pretty sound; and b) Lee hadn't clobbered me at chess the previous evening.
Things started sort of OK, with the Arabs deciding they weren't that keen on Achaemenid rule, and my Thracians flushing out a Carian slinger ambush.

Prodromoi did pretty well, routing the Indians and slowly driving off some Sakae.
Hypaspists support the cavalry attack. What is not visible is the destruction of the Companions by the Massagetae. :(
My left flank starts ominously crumbling....
A phalanx fails to catch the Susianian horse.
Where's my reserve???????
A complicated melee, but when the dust settled, I'd lost the rest of my horse and Alexander. My phalanxes were holding up in the centre, but with both flanks broken they'd have been living on borrowed time if army morale hadn't shattered at this stage.

Go, Lee, Go........ :)

Unfortunately there aren't many Japanese research ships in the Irish SEa :d :d
Or Whales.
If there were, the news reports could get a bit confusing. :D
