Title: British helicopters early 1960
Post by: fsn on 14 July 2019, 07:42:10 PM
Good afternoon chaps.

I've found some Whirlwinds and Wessexses(?).

I'm trying to find out what colours they would have been in the early 1960s. I'm thinking Army or RAF, in Europe. There are lots of photos, but I can't pin down if they were grey/green, green/greener or olive.

Help! Please.

Neither would have been Army. In the eary 70's AAC aircraft were either Bronze Green or Sea Grey/Dark Green, as RAF ones were. Check Wings Palette, has good coverage of colour schemes.

Thank you.

I didn't mention the Westland Scouts for the AAC.  :-[

Partly right Ian,  but in Operations Banner and Corporate  it was the heroes of NAS 845 Squadron who flew the Wessex to its limits when the RAF complained of fog, white outs and oncoming mortar fire.  :)
