If I played on a 6' x 6', my opponent would stick their entire army in the middle of the board, knowing that I could never stretch / reach to push my troops there :D
I would need an entire army of 12 pdr artillery!
Nice report. Good for a quick small scale action without having to clear space to set up a big table as well.
Another good post, Norm. I do like your 12mm ACW figures. I've yet to play Black Powder in full 28mm scale because (1) I don't have more than 2 figures in that scale :-[ and (2) I have limited table top space - instead I use my own 2/3rds and half scale QRS's for my 10mm and 15mm games and for other rules, I often use my own home made 'reduced measurement' rulers (e.g., 2cm or 1.5cm = 1 game inch).
My last 4 games have been fought on a playing area no larger than 3' x 3' using 10mm and 15mm scales and have been most enjoyable with me seated and relaxed for most of the game. Don't get me wrong, I do like the spectacle and panoply of the larger games but unfortunately I find that they often take too long and can be very tiring nowadays. If you have the right scenario, I don't think you really need armies of epic proportions to get a good game and as time goes on, I'm finding that small area gaming is becoming more and more attractive.
I would entirely agree with that sentiment.
Just found this 3 v 2 brigade game i played in the same space last year.

As always an interesting blog post
Another great post Norm and wonderful to see small games being championed. As you know most of my games are on a 4' x 4' table or smaller, yet get the right scenario and rules and you have challenging and enjoyable games that can be completed in a few hours. The other advantage is that you can concentrate on what you want to do due to the smaller area, rather than being distracted by loads of troops over a wider area.
Great looking game Norm. Nice to see good games being played rather than the default huge is better of so many - often I see people set up, play 3 moves, get nowhere, then pack up.
Did you use the Glory Hallelujah supplement?

I only took one rule from them, the one that says if you make more than one move (i.e. two or three) then you can't fire in the same turn. I'm really surprised that this rule didn't find its way into BP Second Edition, for the pinboard purposes, it helpe ensure that movement was generally moderate in that small space.
It's amazing what you can get done in a small space. SteveJ's 4x4 has been the scene for some rather large affairs. I wonder if we could get Leipzig squeezed into an evening?
Love how vibrant your yanks and even rebs look.
Hi Norm. Enjoyed reading your post as usual. Always enjoy watching your careful development of small-space games that center on the action in a portion of a larger battle. Your four rule-sets comparison in a previous post was also enlightening.
As a personal note, also approve of your CSA selections (the 25th was mostly western Virginians as well as a good portion of the 13th) :)
Thanks all.
Bill, I grabbed some orders of battle from Shenandoah Valley campaign.
