This book made me think a little bit.

It reminded me of a recent blogpost.

This post also stirred in myself a desire to do Rorke's Drift again but do it large.
I am toying with idea of a 1:1 figure scale, certainly for the redcoats. 150 figures, not too difficult surely. Maybe 4000 Zulus would be a right challenge but 400 Zulus is within sight especially if you can recycle casualties back into action.
The next thing to consider would be ground scale or more importantly base sizes which would then dictate the size of the playing area. I have up to 12 feet of a 4 foot wide table available.
Then there would be the modelling challenges of the buildings, defenses and surrounding terrain. Not impossible.
Lastly, there would be adding authentic details such as those covered in the book mentioned above. It looks like a necessary purchase, perhaps I will.
Something to think long and hard about.
Pardon.
What's that I hear you say?
Rules. Yes, rules, I have them already stashed away in the loft (I hope).
Just a quiet weekend project then!
That would definitely be impressive
"The sentries report Zulus to the South West Sir.....thousands of them"
I can remember seeing a PC? game back in the 80s or early 90s that let you refight Rourkes Drift by inputting one action for every man individually...then you ran the results of that turn....took a while to play.
Good luck with the project Jim ☺
Nice one, Jim. :)
Cheers - Phil
I'm sure some rules would allow different scales for regulars and irregulars.
Crikey Carruthers! This will be a game to see!
