A couple of questions on Reece Support Units (RSUs) for clarification please -
(1) Have I understood the rules (p30-32) correctly please? .....
RSUs acting in a turn as Reece, may (just like a Reece Unit) attempt to Communicate with a Command unit (using tables on p30) and if successful, either -
(A) Grant a +1 CV bonus to that Command - who may then subsequently attempt to order-in on-table Artillery Support Units in the Command Phase of that turn.
Or
( B ) RSU can observe (with LoS) the nearest eligible target enemy unit for an FAC or FAO. The FAC/FAO may subsequently attempt to order-in off-table air strikes/artillery in the Command Phase of that turn.
They cannot do both (A) and ( B ).
(2) Ref the Reece Example on p30 (which also works for RSU acting as Reece) -
How does the first bullet work please? "They can reveal the location of the target unit to the nearest Command Unit, who can then direct fire, assault or call in artillery or aircraft."
(A) Is it the nearest Command Unit that can get a benefit / bonus CV or are proximities ignored please?
( B ) Does it still mean that only FAC/FAO units can call in aircraft or off-table artillery?
(C) WHat is the 'assault' bit refering to please?
Many thanks!
A
1) correct - only 1 action
2) it allows the Command unit to behave as if it can see the target enemy unit (through the eyes of the Recce unit metaphorically) - so could order units that cannot see the enemy unit to move into an assault (so around the back of a BUA for example). However, it is more applicable to indirect on-table fire for mortars or Infantry guns.
Great thanks Mark - all understood
