I just received BKC IV book a few days ago. I noticed that the Mortar AT listings have a * next to their AT listing. Can anyone tell me what the * means or where I might find a description? Appreciate your help. P.S. Love BKC IV.
I think it shoud be an asterix for a note to denote that they only cause suppression against armoured units, except those that are exposed ie open topped.

Thanks for the quick response. That makes sense after reading page 45 on Mortars. Thanks again for helping to clarify questions we have. Happy gaming.

We are not amused. :(
Mortars above a certain caliber will cause AT casualties and so do not generally have the * denoting no AT casualties.
Also remember the minimum ranges for mortars.

The first TigerII encountered at Arnhem near the Oosterbeek church was ko'd by a 3" mortar round. It set fire to the stowage and the crew abandoned it.
I forget which regt, but one British unit lost a Sherman (and crew) on the last day of the war when a mortar round went through the open commanders hatch.
We play at a model represents roughly 4 so I'd not expect a ko, but hits or suppression would be acceptable. The problem is that players often mass their mortars. One player on the old forum griped that 3 mortars could ko a tank unit. The fact it was an entire brigades worth of mortars firing at one platoon had eluded him. With historical orbats we've never had that issue.
