The imperial relief and the Mahdist field army meet near Tel-i-Tubbi. Note the Sultan Mehlik, carrying a company of rough, tough, jolly sailor-men, reeking of rum, tar, and parrots, and rotten with pox and scurvy. Sir Percy MacHogg, leading the relief column, is ex-RN, and the tars have been upgraded as a result (the bogey table is sometimes friendly). The Khalif had a random roll of a powerful steadying voice to help him rally routers.
There are five Pendraken crocs on the sandbank, but they don't show up well. I may have to rethink that piece. Waterlines models too someday?
The Dervish host. Figures overwhelmingly Pendraken.
Their finest hour. I underestimated the speed of the Faithfuls' advance, and a Naval Brigade gun was taken in flank by their horse; lucky rolls saved us, as the rough tough, jolly sailor men, reeking of rum, tar, and parrots, and rotten with pox and scurvy, heroically fought off the locals. The 54th Hampshires, to the left of the battery, formed line in time, and the Hadendowah foot never got off the ridge.
It looks alarming, but the force to the rear of the Greys (they were in this campaign, but in detachments with the Camel Corps - gamer's licence) are not armed for melee. The charge was a decisive success. In the background, the 8th Cairo suffer the one serious Imperial reverse of the game, breaking after one round against the Ansar.
The 33rd Sussex have already stopped the Sudanese riflemen; here they give a few shots to their camelry. To the rear, the 21st Lancers ride to the support of the embattled right.
Not photographed, the main Mahdist attack in the centre fell foul of the 42nd Highlanders and the Naval Brigade foot (aka rough, tough, jolly sailor-men, reeking of rum, tar, and parrots, and rotten with pox and scurvy), with some useful support from the Gatlings. The Khalif himself perished bravely in the front line, and is doubtless sharing a coffee with the Archangel Gibreel even now.
I made few real blunders, but I was lucky to survive the one with the right; I could have been rolled up beyond recovery there if the outflanking force hadn't fluffed their combat rolls.
Sorry - misclick.
Great report
GORDON'S ALIVE?!?!?!!
We allow cadets to post here? Hmmph, in my day...where's my brandy, Jervis, damn you?...we remained reverently silent in the presence of officers, ladies, and the regimental cat. We didn't even allow the whippersnappers to touch a weapon until they'd captured four natives in personal combat....
How did we ever promote the regimental cat to General ?
Well, if the Norwegian Royal Guard can promote a penguin to Brigadier ...

Got there over a pile of bodies. Not a Field Marshal yet, either....
You never know when the cadet in question is Cyrano de Bergerac
This is not helping me decide what my next next project will be (after Scots for the BCW) :-\

Why does a partially Arctic nation have an Antarctic mascot / pet / whatever it is?
More to the point, why does it live in Edinburgh Zoo?
Most to the point, why is it inspecting the Royal Guard when it's in the uniform of the Oslo Fusiliers?

Who nose?
Get your coat !! ;)
Cheers - Phil
Are you picking on FK for a nose joke?
S'not fair.
Nobby- get your coat, and chew it !!
Refight today. Battle of Bak-ed-Bins is about to begin.
A preview.
Fuzzy running away again. :)
What Colonial Rules set are you using for these great games?
Cheers
Mark
Home brew: White Man's Burden.
'Ere's to you, Fuzzy Wuzzy.
You're an enemy to fear;
But though you're full o' ginger,
You need to watch your rear!
The dice favoured me, and I didn't slip up tactically this time.
The Ansar Cavalry gave the Queen's Own Lancers a bit of a headache, but we held them long enough.
We then watched The Four Feathers that evening; Lee pointed out in annoyance that Fuzzies at Abu Klea didn't stop charging because they'd been shot up, and she didn't see why hers should.
Today the Madhist army is having a crack at the Egyptians. Here's an advance image.
3rd time unlucky?
They're not as tough as Tommy, that's certain.
I have just discontinued my string of Sudan victories. Billy Hicks got away, but not much of his army did.
Pic one - the start. I hoped to arrange a bit of a "ring of steel" defence, but my mounted got tempted out (bad habit of mine; can't resist advancing).
As picture two shows, things got complicated quickly.
I also hoped to shell the Khalif's camel regiment, and himself, straight to Paradise. Not one dam' hit.
HEY !!
Why aren't you glued to the TV, watching ....erm.....wossisname riding in his ceremonial palanquin, instead of playing games.
(Or has it all finished ?)
Cheers - Phil
I have always avoided TV. Thai broadcasting has never been likely to convert me.
