Title: General D’Armee 10mm Take The Village game
Post by: MAgamer on 13 April 2019, 11:30:10 AM
Painting has slowed a little over the past few weeks. I have completed a Total Battle Village though and finished my Brunswick cavalry so thought I would have a game.
The Allies have to hold a Village which the French need to take so they can continue the advance into Belgium. I have the report here in 'phases' rather than turns, fighting in BUA's is a new part of the GdA rules for me and I enjoyed them thoroughly, missing out the 'charge' chart and going straight to melee means that any advances or defence soaks up casualties quickly and sucks in troops.  It works well. I got the idea of 'sectors' for the BUA from the salute Ligny game. If you tap the text below the picture it reveals the rest of the text, I hope this gives a clear picture of how it all works and is worthy of the 'batrep' section of the forum!

Not a good day for the British cav then...

Well a single regiment managed to drain the two regiments of French, leaving just a shattered regiment of lancers incapable of doing anything useful. They also occupied the French cavalry for 4 or 5 turns, which allowed the RHA battery and the Brunswick brigade free fire/movement to threaten the important French centre. They may not have 'won' the cavalry battle or even any of the individual engagements, but they did achieve what was needed of them in a tactical sense.
The advantage of having a cavalry brigade of two regiments (French) against a single Regiment (British) cannot be underestimated. Support re-rolls almost always swing the balance despite the advantages of 'heavy' 'battle cavalry'.  The British where especially unlucky- they drew the first combat which allowed the Chausseurs to join in the second round, this made the first engagement especially bloody. When my Scots greys are painted up it will be even more interesting!
Cheers MA
