Having bought enough lead to sink the proverbial battleship, I have made a start on some TYW units for use in Baroque.
First up is a Spanish Tercio.

A lot of those figures look familiar, are they on holiday in Spain ;)
Very nice
Very nice! I have the figures but not sure if they will make this years lists 'woking on it' lists
Fantastic!
A lot of work and a great result
Very impressive mass appearance.
God solid body of pike and just enough irregularity among the shot to make them look busy.
Great looking Tercio! A really favorite period of mine. I've discovered form some more currently published works that uniforms were more common than was thought previously. So I'll be taking a more uniform approach to my four armies of the TYW.
Terry
Thanks everyone for the kind comments - it is great support.

Thanks Terry.
Can you share where you have seen the references to greater 'uniformity'. I have been battling with this question and had landed on a lack of it.
Thanks
Richard
These are great!
Agreed! Very nice. :-bd
(btw, with that basing system, hope you like playing Baroque)
Are those firing musketeers from the ECW range or the TYW range?
Rct, I have encountered several sources recently, with the best being Laurence Spring's "The Bavarian Army During the Thirty Years war 1618-1648". His chapter on clothing the soldiers covers not just the Bavarian's, but just about a little of every nation.

Not sure where you're located so listed both the US and the UK.

Hope these help.

Brilliant - thanks Terry

Yes - we love it. Playtested it and also the new version of its older cousin Impetus.
Also struggled to find anything else that comes close to the period.

Leman, they are a mixture. I wanted a variety of poses. Have bought EC14, 28, 36 & 37 as well as YW1 and mix them up. No loading figures though on the tercio. Will keep them for the P&M units that are primarily firing.
Richard
Really like it! The huge single base will look menacing in a battle!
Looks very good indeed
Take care
Andy
I really like these bigger bases, nice work.
Glorious...looks amazing. Can't wait to see these chaps on the table, substantial !! comes to mind.
That tercio is very impressive, love the big base and all the figures, really works well. Superb!!! :)
Wow! Great work with both painting and modelling, not just a great wargaming unit- a cool diorama too. Is the TYW the period with Viggo Mortensen running around Spain with his rapier? I haven't really read any of the history around the period (as you can tell), is there a good starting point for literature you could recommend?
Keep the pics coming, would love to see more
MA
that is indeed the TYW - the back end of it culminating in Spain's defeat at .......... nope, can't remember the name off-hand.
I got this for kindle when it was free It s a mighty tome

Rocroi, that was it. The film has sword and buckler men going under the pike to get at their French opposite numbers. Not sure if Spain was still using them in 1648, but the heavily armoured mounted pistoleers that attack the Spanish pike certainly were.
I enjoyed this on audiobook https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B008BU1GT0/ref=tmm_aud_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1550665877&sr=8-2
I'm sure a little dated compared to more recent offerings (though I didn't realise it's publication date until afterwards) but a fantastic and accessible overview of the period's history.
I've had my eye on the one Fenton recommended too, looks interesting.
It is interesting. The first 100 pages or so are the difference between Calvinism and Lutherism and is a little heavy going. But is fine after that
