Title: Wargaming features in Private Eye
Post by: Chris Pringle on 15 December 2018, 10:02:30 AM
Forum members familiar with the UK's satirical magazine Private Eye
http://www.private-eye.co.uk/
may be interested to know that wargaming is the subject of its regular "Scene and Heard" section this week. "Scene and Heard" gives a cartoon snapshot of a different niche group/community in each issue. I suppose its a fair glimpse of different aspects of our hobby, though the specimens depicted looked rather scrawny.

I gave up buying Private Eye....YEARS AGO.

I did enjoy it....But I found that I was always drawn to a certain spoof article about the fictional Neasden Football Club.

I used to turn to that particular page to see how many own goals 'Baldy Pevsner' had scored.

There would be scores like .....Harpic (Rotterdam) 7  Neasden 0

Scorers..... Tulip, 3 Windmill 1....Pevsner (Own goals) 3.

Cheers - Phil

Just read my copy (I keep it to read at work over lunch). It's not as good as many, possibly even quite kind to wargamers, while pointing out the better known (and very true) stereotypes - like one guy saying there's no luck in the game (because good tactics give a better chance of better die rolls...) while another cheers a good die roll...
