Title: Cheating to get large Napoleonics armies painted

During a search of the internet the other day I found a unrelated post about how to get lots of big Napoleonic armies.

Just do later war, and only paint infantry in greatcoats. All the nations would look the same, so you only need to change the standard on command stands. That way you only need to paint enough for two armies, and greatcoats are easier anyway.  :d :D ;)

Sounds like a great way for WWII aficionados to get into Napoleonics. Incidentally we have a 15mm WWI Russian army down the club in which the bulk of the infantry have been sourced from Napoleonic Russians in greatcoat and peaked cap.

The shakos/plumes etc make it hard to just switch a standard and call them russians for example. No?

They are so definitely French as well as carrying a French tricolour.

They'll need more than a flag change to convince me.

Just buy more figures, hopefully the correct ones.

I never realised Dick Dastardly was a battalion commader in Napoleon's army! :D

Reasonable idea.
Personally I'd never reconcile the minor differences in their hats.
