Damn, Will, those are super sexy!

I've got quite a bit of 1/300 coastal stuff lying around for WWII Pacific, this reminds me I need to get them out and finished.

Can't wait to see yours in action.

Jack

I can see this line being very successful for Warlord, just a few models on the table and a ton of fun I would imagine.

Lemmey,

OK, finally got some sunshine so I was able to take some pics from a couple of books I have on the Kriegsmarine. Also, this link should be of some help as well.

https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1MKDC_enUS771US771&biw=1920&bih=938&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=rC4IXMPLFIGt_QbCqZy4DQ&q=s-boats+in+the++kriegsmarine&oq=s-boats+in+the++kriegsmarine&gs_l=img.12...8839.17021..19850...0.0..0.71.1003.17......1....1..gws-wiz-img.......0i8i7i30j0i8i30j0i7i30.ZuOcNPOK88w

Here's the photos - not great, but may be of help.

Note: this one appears to be a mid-blue and a red brown on a white or very light gray.

(http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh235/terry37photos/Misc%201/DSCF1754_zpssvqsoyjv.jpg) (http://s257.photobucket.com/user/terry37photos/media/Misc%201/DSCF1754_zpssvqsoyjv.jpg.html)

No color for this one, but appears to be the same doodles as the previous on a light gray hull and then a white doodle under the blue and brown.

From my research, this seems to have been the most common scheme - over all white. it was deemed the best for night time! But not much fun for doing models - give me the colorful schemes!!!!

Also, if you can find it I highly recommend the book " Arnanstriche und Tarnanstriche der deutschen Kriegsmarine" by Bernard and Graefe Verlag. It is in German, but the photos have English text, and there are some color photos, some color art work showing various camo schemes, and a set of color charts.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Anstriche+und+Tarnanstriche+der+deuthschen+Kriegsmarine

Hope this helps!

Yep, was at the museum at Aberdeen many times back in the early 60's. Then almost everything was just overall spray painted in a red rust primer. They were still neat though! And also saw Annie!!!

Has anyone actually played this game as yet?  :-

I had been tempted, on the assumption that it might be a fun whizz-bang beer n'pretzels type game ("What a Sopping Wet Tanker"?) but then I saw some errata posted online which suggested there were well over 100+ pages of rules... which kinda put me right off !
Title: Re: Savage Seas
Post by: Ithoriel on 09 January 2019, 04:51:44 PM
Played a few two player games. I have the rulebook but not the rest of the gubbins and am using 1/600 scale ships.

All of the models I have at the moment are too shallow draught to be affected by torpedoes so we've ignored them meantime.

The rules themselves seem pretty straightforward (assuming we're getting them right!) and so far have given a fast, fun, "two dimensional aerial dogfight" type of game.

The basic rules are half a dozen pages including artwork and diagrams. The advanced rules probably double that.

Does seem more fun than accuracy focussed and seems to me there are some strange decisions in the army (navy?) lists.

Last I saw, the errata was already on v1.1 which tells you something about the product.

I think that it would be a great multiplayer game down the club or participation game at a show.

I don't regret the purchase of the rules or the decision to go Tumbling Dice/ Ros & Heroics 1/600 rather than 1/300.

I got a pack of 1/600 scale torpedoes from Tumbling Dice but I'm still working out how to base them. 32 torpedoes should be more than enough! :)

Title: Re: Savage Seas
Post by: Ithoriel on 21 January 2019, 06:35:22 PM
The group have agreed to keep things low key.

Small numbers of ships each per game.

Nothing military bigger than a sloop or corvette.

....

I await the arrival of 1/600 scale versions of Scharnhorst and Gneisenau and a hastily scribbled "scenario" for the Channel Dash :)

I think that's even cheaper than my FLMS had it! If I had time... so tempting... we 1/600th as well, but some freighters, a tanker and a bunch of destroyers are as heavy as we get, I think. Unless clubmate Roy has quietly put the Home Fleet together :D
Title: Re: Savage Seas
Post by: Ithoriel on 21 January 2019, 10:21:54 PM
Still a bit of detailing to do and ID tags to apply.

Tumbling Dice 1/600 naval.

Rear rank from left to right - Admiralty Drifter, RAF BPB 67ft air-sea rescue launch, 2 RN Harbour Defence Motor Launches and then two seaplane tenders.

Front - two dinghies with airmen waiting to be rescued.

Basic paint job, no fancy cammo or the like, in an effort to get stuff on table before we all go chasing the next big idea!

....

I await the arrival of 1/600 scale versions of Scharnhorst and Gneisenau and a hastily scribbled "scenario" for the Channel Dash :)

Now there is the mother of all cruel sea games !  :)

I have got a couple of resin monitors (Insect class) from PT Dockyard - add the guns from 1/600 spares and ........ potential WW1/inter wars  games become possible.
With OO late 3mm WW1 Germans , the Freikorp campaign around Riga etc .  they are only 120mm in length so don't clog the table.  Could also be used for Russian Civic War.  1/600 lets you dabble.

The Warlord models do paint up nicely. Accuracy is a tad suspect at times, the British trawler has 2 x 12pdr mounted, yet to find any that did though. (Janes, Conways and a book on Allied escorts all consulted)

I hope you don't mind me posting these here Will, but it's partly your fault I dropped 45 quid at Abingdon on a starter set! :D

Just seen this post again, Sunjester has dropped a significant amount more than £45 since then.  He's probably done that 5 times over now.
