Suffering at present from a bad back, I have put together a short blog post, listing some games that are handy for such moments, plus a Jigsaw solutiion!

Nice post Norm!
A good alternative for using the 2 mm blocks are the 2 by 2 rules!
https://www.rodvik.com/2by2/
there are actually quite a few rulesets that can go on a 2 by 2, and are thus pretty good for playing while sitting at a table.
to name a few:
- anyhing from the song of blades and heroes engine. You get two options in the rulebooks, and one of them is using the reduced ranges and playing on a 2 by 2
- dba plays on a 2 by 2 if i recall correctly
- USE ME rulesets sold by alternative armies, although not everyone likes them.
-not 2 by 2, but the command and colours series is quite compact as well
You just got to be prepared to drop down a scale or 2 sometimes.
i made a travel version of song of blades and heroes this summer, that easily played on a memoir board!
Thanks for the link. Thinking along the lines of travel versions would likely produce the exact effect I am after.
Nice one, Norm.
You have my total sympathy regarding your back.
Cheers - Phil
Hmmm, bad backs have been the bane of my life on and off since I half slipped a disc as a teenager :(. Games that spring to mind are:
- HoTT - that plays on a 2' x 2'.
- Lion Rampant, Dragon Rampant etc play nicely on a 2' x 2' table when using 10mm or 15mm figures and cm for movement etc.
- Dux Bellorum on a 2' x 3' table, again using cms for measurement etc.
- You could even try a Stalingrad type game with BKCII on a 2' x 2' table, given how long it can take to winkle out troops from BUAs. Hmmm, that's got me thinking... :-
Hope this helps?
A lady called Jenny Klacka did it with a Turkish renaissance army, chained guns and lots of musketeers, no movement.

I once tried bkc on a 2×3 with half measurements. Worked great., but my bases where too big to work properly. I imagine, if you reduce base measurements by half that it would be ok.
Thanks all. Steve, I have Dux Bellorum, part painted 12mm 1066 troops (on 80mm bases) which could proxy and a 2' x 3' space, so perhaps it is time for me to actually pull those rules from the shelves.
A lot of my gaming was on our kitchen table before we converted the garage to another room (now the dining room with table, of course) and so I always thought "Kitchen Table Wargaming" would be a good title for a blog. Anyhoo, I play all of my games on a 'down scaled' basis (e.g., having Pendraken 10mm SYW armies, I've played one of the scenarios in Honours of War on a 3'x2' table - and that was using 15mm scale measurements!). To facilitate this, I've also made different measuring sticks where 1 inch in the Rules (e.g., 1 inch) is actually 1.5 cm - OK, you're swapping a pain in the back for 'a pain in the neck' to make them - but it is only temporary and doesn't take long. :D
