A bit of a fun one this week, what is the reason behind your username? Something simple like 'Leon' or 'nikharwood', or something more cryptic? Maenoferren? Goat Major? Blaxkleric?
:-\
My initials
me name, but i know lots of silly ones.
ians
when i first picked this nickname (for another forum) i was in the middle of painting the command group for the 23rd foot (Pendraken figs natch). Although ironically i didn't actually do them a goat figure... :-\
A nickname from my days in green :)
A reminder of *Happy Days* before Political correctness, health and safety and oxygen thiefs were decreed the norm >:(
Blax The Cleric was the name I gave to one of my first Citadel Models (which still sits half-painted on my painting desk almost forty years later). :-[
My other hobby is cartooning, and one of the first original characters I started hand-drawing were the adventures of Blax The Kleric. Because I wanted to create my own fantasy world, I changed the spellings/names of things slightly... Trolls are Fnolls, Orcs are Gibberlings (though I've since found out D&D have a creature called that), and Clerics became Klerics. When I started drawing using a computer I took the name with me as my Username and over time I've simply dropped the 'the' from it.
In typing this I've realised I haven't drawn him since 1996 as my audience (my boys) prefer alien invasions to fantasy. =)
Blaxkleric

Name of the album I was listening to when trying to think of a username a few years ago, since kept it for most forums.

Basically a gift from the sysop at a company I was working for at one time. 7 letters of last name, and 1 initial. Bet he never heard of DBM and BUA's, though!
Scipio von Lentulus was an Austrian and Prussian general who is mentioned in Charge! as the hapless opponent of the narrator -- which is how it became my wargaming nickname back in the 70s

No more chant your old rhymes about bold Robin Hood
His feats I do little admire.
I'll sing the achievements of General Ludd,
Now the hero of Nottinghamshire.
Brave Ludd was to measures of violence unused
Till his sufferings became so severe,
That at last to defend his own interests he roused,
And for the great fight did prepare.
The guilty may fear but no vengeance he aims
At the honest man's life or estate;
His wrath is entirely confined to wide frames
And to those that old prices abate.
Those engines of mischief were sentenced to die
By unanimous vote of the trade,
And Ludd who can all opposition defy
Was the grand executioner made.
And when in the work he destruction employs,
Himself to no method confines;
By fire and by water he gets them destroyed,
For the elements aid his designs.
Whether guarded by soldiers along the highway,
Or closely secured in a room,
He shivers them up by night and by day
and nothing can soften their doom.
He may censure great Ludd's disrespect for the laws,
Who ne'er for a moment reflects
That foul imposition alone was the cause
Which produced these unhappy efrects.
Let the haughty the humble no longer oppress,
Then shall Ludd sheathe his conquering sword;
His grievances instantly meet with redress,
Then peace shall be quickly restored.
Let the wise and the great lend their aid and advice
Nor e'er their assistance withdraw,
Till full-fashioned work at the old-fashioned price
Is established by custom and law.
Then the trade when this arduous contest is o'er
Shall raise in full splendour its head;
And colting and cutting and squaring no more
Shall deprive honest workmen of bread.
The Luddites foresaw the ills of capitalism from the very beginning;
Luddism at its core was a heterogenous howl of protest and defiance.
It made its point, loud and clear: the progress of industrial capitalism, and the misery and pain and upheaval that came with it, was hurtful and odious to the English working family and demanded resistance.
But if that point was only to be submerged beneath the unstoppable tide of the Industrial Revolution, what else could these powerless and desperate people do?
I've always identified with their sentiments, wisdom and bravery.
I also enjoy the misunderstanding of the modern world that the Luddites are 'anti-technology', and in that false context the irony of being a 'Luddite on-line'. ;) :D
Been online for something like 14 years so way back then As a naive little internt virgin I decided to call myself StephenR, however some dammned colonial already had it, so after SteveR etc etc etc, I would have ended up with StephenR12495749 or something like that. So I hunted about for a name I ended up with two - Lowforce (named after the waterfall on the Tees I used to fling me and my Kayak off and Maenoferren is the incorectly spelt version of Maenofferen, a quarry in Wales. Maenofferen Quarry is a major slate quarry in the town of Blaenau Ffestiniog, north Wales and one of the major users of the Ffestiniog Railway (where I used to work). It continues to produce crushed slate on a limited scale under the ownership of the nearby Llechwedd quarry.
Basically I used to mooch around the place after hours and wander the tunnels of the various mine workings around Blaenau.. So there we go now you know :D

Probably a safer bet than Highforce! ;)
We kind of have a family naming convention for Usernames ;D
My two brothers are known as Jumbobazman and Stellamockman, so naturally when I signed up for Xbox Live several years ago I chose Megamatman and its stuck ever since.
Matt
My name is Hugh but as a child was quite tall for my age so was often called Huge.
The capt and ca is because I used to belong to an organisation called Church Army where all the blokes were called captains and had to put CA after our names to ensure that we weren't mistaken for captains in other organisations, though some did once ask me if I was a chartered accountant! #-o
I've left CA but it would be too much hassle to change my user name on all the forums to something more currently suitable.
And I hope I'm not jumping the gun but my icon is from a Father's Day card which my sons bought me a few years ago because they all thought that it looked like me (minus the glasses)

its not simple, you both use them names so you dont forget what your called =O
Captain Verbeek is my fictional colonial personae that I invented in a response to a roll playing colonial thread. I liked the character so much that I painted him up for a few wargamers around the world to get stuck into their campaigns and started a blog about his roll in the fictional Cavanderi colonial campaign. I have painted the good captain in 15mm, 10mm and 28mm. My icon is the captain in 10mm. You can see the other versions on his blog.

You mean your brothers are named Baz and Mock? ???
Was working with some Ukrainians many, many years ago and pick up some Russians from them. Zaapark is zoo in Russian, so I figured no one else on the web would use zoo as a handle. My avatar, the Keebler Elf, is the nick name giving to me by co-workers long ago while delivery pizzas in Denton Texas. Apparently I worked my "elfin magic" to woo my female co-workers. :) :D

Pruneau Brisecoeur is my first Chivalry and Sorcery fantasy RPG character, a mischievous bard, bastard son to a french baronet, that had quite a way with the ladies. He was particularly fond of halfling females, for reasons too nasty to mention here.

Yep ;D Baz = Barry, Mock = Mockett (surname) - his forename is Kev.

Because Mad Half Elf (which I used at Uni 20 years ago) is just silly.
Hussars are dashing, if narcissitic, lunatics. Anyone who has seen me use cavalry will know thats how I use them.
Just back from marching on Whitehall with my new idea for something called 'democracy'.

Were you looking at your car when you registered?! :D
We actually had a customer the other week, who placed an order and registered on the website as 'Pendraken'. Simples.
Nope, just lack of imagination ;D
Copyright infringement, GW would have them skinned. ;)

My standard username I usually use is matonet. My name is Mat. Ergo Mat with 1 't'. When registering with the pendraken forum, I couldn't think of anything original and got the name of a horse from the form guide. Hence 'Ziparoo'. The serendipitous link with this is that I'm an Aussie and now have a username with 'roo' on the end.
My Name is Nicolas and I love Figures so my Username is simple Nicofig :D
And it's the same thing for many ML I ave create Napofig, Royalfig, Navalfig, and my site is http://www.nicofig.fr (http://www.nicofig.fr)

My first name is Derek. My surname begins with H.

My father-in-law's probably lost some pennies backing Ziparoo...
My first proper painting commission was lots of late Romans, I hadn't been into ancients before but the period seemed cool enough to draw me in. Around the same time I had to pick a username for a forum (can't remember which one) so thought clibinarium would be obscure enough not to have been picked by anyone else.
If I had managed to spell it right i.e. clibanarius who knows how things may have worked out.
7 or 8 years ago I hit a deer with the car. The deer bounced off the car, snorted, then ran away. Of course the whole front end was destroyed. My son, who was in the back seat said, 'At least it wasn't a moose because they don't bounce off cars.'
Hence, MooseDontBounce
My daughters name is Ellie...
Who'd 've guessed that?

'Kustenjaeger' from a company of the German 'special forces' Brandenburg Regiment in WW2 - specialising in coastal raiding operating in the Aegean. I came across the unit in an article about the German assault on Leros in 1943 and was intrigued.

"Shecky" was my nickname in college. I told bad jokes to my roommates and they gave me that name.
Jubilation T Cornpone is a song I sang in a musical called Lil' Abner in my days in Musical Theatre. Its about the statue of a civil war general that stands in the town square. For those interested enough.....
When we fought the Yankees and annihilation was near,
Who was there to lead the charge that took us safe to the rear?
Why it was Jubilation T. Cornpone;
Old "Toot your own horn - pone."
Jubilation T. Cornpone, a man who knew no fear!
When we almost had 'em but the issue still was in doubt,
Who suggested the retreat that turned it into a rout?
Why it was Jubilation T. Cornpone;
Old "Tattered and torn - pone."
Jubilation T. Cornpone, he kept us hidin' out!
With our ammunition gone and faced with utter defeat,
Who was it that burned the crops and left us nothing to eat?
Why it was Jubilation T. Cornpone;
Old "September Morn - pone."
Jubilation T. Cornpone, the pants blown off his seat!
HURRAY!
When it seemed like our brave boys would keep on fighting for months,
Who took pity on them and ca-pit-u-lated at once?
Why it was Jubilation T. Cornpone; Unshaven and shorn - pone.
Jubilation T. Cornpone, he weren't nobody's dunce!
Who went re-con-noiter-ing to flank the enemy's rear,
Circled through the piney woods, and disappeared for a year?
Why it was Jubilation T. Cornpone;
Old "Treat 'em with scorn - pone."
Jubilation T. Cornpone, the missing mountaineer!
Who became so famous with a reputation so great,
That he ran for president and didn't carry a state?
Why it was Jubilation T. Cornpone;
Old "Wouldn't be sworn - pone."
Jubilation T. Cornpone, he made the country wait!
Stonewall Jackson got his name by standing firm in the fray.
Who was known to all his men as good ol' "Paper Mache?"
Why it was Jubilation T. Cornpone;

My nic comes from the fact that |I make up most the rules for my games; I usually even rewrite games like Arkham Horror, ASL, Tide of Iron, etc.
Most my rules use six sided dice for most game resolutions.
BTW, I absolutely love and adore your blog Captain Verbeek.
