This was a painful experience for the barbarians. In retrospect, I should have held back my superior numbers of horse to menace Greek flanks. The open field wasn't good for my peltasts, oh, no, precious, not good at all.
The idea was that the heavy cavalry should hit them from one direction, tribesmen from another. The latter didn't see any reason to hurry....
When figures are three ranks deep, the idea is that the Thracians have closed up from open skirmishing order into a fierce warband mob able to fight effectively in melee. But Greek armour and long spears didn't let them get close enough to do what they intended to.
The twin styles of fighting are recorded in Thucydides, by the way. Not just WRG fantasy.
Figures are a mix of Pendraken and Newlines (Thracians), and ditto plus Irregular Miniatures and Magister Militum (Greeks). The Greek temple is not the former one I've used, but a Leven offering.
Crowning humiliation; we didn't even beat their thureophoroi, who out-peltasted us at our own game.
Lee (opponent, and my present wife) says she's learning to enjoy ancients.
Ouches

Sounds as though you have a queue waiting ! :D
Perhaps he's looking for a wife who doesn't regularly beat him ;)

Take care

Might have a problem finding a wife who plays that badly. :)
Oh, is that what he meant? I thought someone had blown the whistle on my masochism.
;) ;D
Rematch today. The field is much rougher and more peltast-friendly.
Nice armies!
One day i'll plunge myself into making a greek army, one day! Going to Crete this summer once more!
Still got my head clouted, but it was closer today.
Peltast......I miss-read that and was thinking I'd have to report that to the prefects' room.
Don't want that sort of smut here. :P :D
Cheers - Phil
What on earth could you have been thinking, Techno?
You've got a dirty mind!
