Rather than re-post pics in the original posts William/James in Ireland thanks to Photobucket and in a bid to keep them all in the same place here is a new one (delete the other 2 if you want Leon).
The overall project is to refight the Battle of the Boyne using the historical plan and a few what ifs ( Count Solms plan seems particularly risky )
Part one, the action around Oldbridge, is nearing completion. I have drawn as a closing point for this scenario the Danes crossing of the Boyne, as this event and the crossing further downstream of William and his cavalry pretty much sealed the deal in this section. The Jacobites will be out numbered in foot 13/6 but will have total superiority in Horse 9/0 sdns and Dragoons 6/0 sdns
Rather than a piecemeal post of units as I do them, I will post as Brigades.
The generals first as they are generic and have no specific person in mind (William and James apart when i finish them)

Great to see your LoA stuff again (plus some new ones)! (Don't think we've seen them since the photobucket debacle?). Looking forward to more pics .... and eventually pics of your game? =D>
Simply stunning work 8). They will put my efforts to shame!
Absolutely fabulous work!
I say, verily excellent work!
Cheers,

Absolutely awesome is all I can say! Nice try though in getting us to think those aren't 54 MM figures!!! ;D In all seriousness, those are amazing and are going to make a beautiful table display.
Also a favorite period of mine.
Truly well done!!!
Terry
Fantastic work on all of these!

I hope these are going in the painting competition!
Yeah, what Mollinary said.
What rules are they based up for?
Just finished watching the latest episode of Versaille on BBC and really getting a hankering (again) for starting a Pendraken League of Augsburg era army (or two). I'm behind on my ECW project and this is not helping me resist!
.... Terrific stuff, as usual! Bravo! :D :-bd
btw, as Nick the Lemming queries, are these based for any particular rules?
Thanks for the kind words guys
They are based for Baroque although I just bought ' The War of the Three Kings' rules so will give them a go as well. The basing is slightly different but as they are all the same I think I can work around that.
Unlikely they will appear in the painting competition as I am finding it hard to find the time to take the photos and as they are, they do not fit the restrictions on unit size.
An enviable collection there.
:-bd =D> :-bd =D>
They are brilliant ! :-bd

Marvellous looking units.
Truly beautiful work. All reminds me that a pal of mine has a calendar that goes: January, February, March, March, March, March, March, March... X_X
Love the basing as well, nice ideas there. I like the "green grassy slopes" look!

Where ????
On the green grassy slopes of the Boyne"
Very nice indeed

How have you found war of the three kings so far? How do they compare with btlb 2?
I've not tried them yet, only read through and I haven't played previous versions so I can't compare them. On read through they seem okay though. I especially like the idea of different dice for quality rather than the traditional +1 as a modifier. Also the make up and tactics of the individual units has been well done, but this may have been the same in previous sets :)
These are lovely; beautifully painted and a massed effect. I also think the basing is very well done, I'm not usually a lover of static grass, particularly on smaller scales, but this looks great along with the judicious use of tufts.
Very well done, I'm especially envious of the command stands at the beginning.
Brilliant, totally and utterly.
If I was starting afresh I would follow your unit sizes, they look awesome - my 21 fig battalions feel so inadequate now ;)
Cheers
Ian

wow, can't believe it's been so long since I posted here. Anyway, stage one is now complete (has been for a while but not taken pics) with the final Williamite regiments
Garde de Voet

I went with the 3 battalion theory as the numbers seemed logical. The jury is still out though.
The battalion at the back was the first I painted to see if I liked the range.....that question has well and truly been put to bed lol

Going well
I'm about a third of the way into the project so I'll be busy for a while yet lol
Love those.
:-bd
But that's all I'm looking at, today.
These are absolutely superb. I'd not come across this thread before (last post was just before I came across the forum I think) so enjoyed looking back at it.
Damn you though, I'd only just managed to resist adding LoA into my last order.... definitely high on my todo list.
Was playtesting Twilight of the Sun King recently and it worked well for the period, have you had any further thoughts on rules you'll be using?
I did make a Boyne scenario for Warlords Pike and Shotte (just using 2d counters to play as I've no figs for the period) but wasn't super keen on it. Twilight of will probably be my go to, but no doubt I'll pick up Three Kingdoms at some point too...
...... when megalomania strikes! ;D ;D ;D
Terrific stuff! :-bd
Twilight of the Sun King appears to be a good contender. I'm not sure about the latest version of Lily Banners (e.g., is this still wedded to the old idea of individual figure removal?) but wondered if For King & Parliament could be adapted for this era.
Breathtaking!
thanks for starting posting again so I could see these stunningly beautiful units. :-bd :-bd :-bd :-bd
I was mulling over rebasing my 32 ish figure ECW units to a 24 fig scenic base option based on another thread but now I have seen the true light - 60figs is where its at! pendraken will need another new building at this rate.

If you have the time, space and patience! I started my ECW at 42 figs but have started the scaling down process.... to about 32 figures each :|
60 though...quite the commitment!
Speaking as someone who has painted a lot of Pendraken LOA figures, I have to say that these are absolutely magnificent. Your refight of the Boyne will be truly something to behold.
I think that the basing should work for "Beneath the Lily Banners" (BLB), which uses a "casualty roster" system rather than individual figure removal; although I use BLB2 and can't speak for either the earlier or later versions. Your base sizes look more appropriate to the recommended 15mm basing sizes but, as both sides are the same, this should not be an issue. I did the same with their "Victory without Quarter" ECW rules by using the recommended 15mm base sizes and packing the figures on.
At the moment I intend to use a doctored version of Baroque mainly because my regular opponent an I are fairly comfortable with the mechanics. I have got The War of the Three Kings and Twilight of the Sun King but have not tried them yet
I've seen some lovely ECW posted on these forums and would be tempted if I wasn't still in the middle of a 15mm project and still not finished some 25mm Essex figures bought for my 18th birthday by my then gf now wife nearly 40 years ago :-[
ps 60 figure units all the way and be proud of your megalomania ;) :d
Seriously impressive both in scale and artistry! It shows how 10mm really gets the sense of big units across. =D>
Stunning work, first class!
Excellent work, both on the quality of the individual figures, and the shear scope of the units!
Makes me think about my project for the same battle, which has been stalled for rather too long. I like that you have used red coated officers for the grey clad regiments, is this a historical approach, as I've not noticed it elsewhere, but that could easily be me not looking properly?
Magnificent.
Just shows what you can do with Pendraken figures if you have the time.
Well do you and well done Pendraken for superb sculps :-bd
Cudders
The officers in red coats is a reference to Tiffins troops being upset about handing their red coats in when re uniformed in grey, as they believed red to be more soldierly. I figured that as officers provided their own they would naturally opt for red. There is evidence of officers in different coats to their rank and file in other regiments eg Beaumonts in crimson, troops in red and Brandenburg Blue troops in white
Those are stunning 8)!

Thanks - really useful to know, and gives a bit of opportunity for a splash of colour
:-bd =D> :-bd =D>
Great to see further progress on this project :)
Very inspiring!
Amazing what you can do with just a centimetre to paint.
Brilliant work.
Absolutely beautiful stuff! Bright colours, very crisp, this looks incredible! Also, it's great that you picked up this rather unappreciated topic of Irish history.
