I have just sent an order off to Pendraken HQ for lots of shiny 10mm goodies.
I have ordered a mixed bag of figures (320 foot and 90 cavalry) to put together a Venetian army (and allies) to face my Ottomans in the 6th & 7th Ottoman–Venetian Wars.
Lots of proxies of course, I am using figures from the Polish, Ottoman, 30 Years War, LOA ans SYW ranges. The scariest part of this is that I plan to paint all of it myself. Most of my 10mm armies to date have been painted by others, Adrian, Nathan and Mickey mainly. But my mojo has returned after completing my 15mm French and Wars of the Roses armies.
Once the figures arrive I will start posting progress pictures, to help spur me on.

Well good luck with this project. It is certainly a new conflict to me, but should be colourful and interesting to follow your progress.
Sounds interesting.
Again, not a conflict I'm aware of. Seems a bit lop sided - the might of the Ottoman Empire against a bunch of gondoliers.
Exciting!
Hi
People know how an obscure theatre/war tickles my fancy and this looks like a good one!!

Fsn you have to remember that they didn't have antibiotics then so gondolier could be serious.....😁
Oh, you want me to pick a coat at random and leave.....

Venice taking advantage of the Ottoman Empire's little troubles with the Austrians and Russians

This looks like quite an interesting project.
I'll be following with interest :)
Sounds like great fun!

I don't know, Having been to Venice Gondoliers are quite good at ripping people off
Well I have worked out on paper what the army will look like. This is my plan based on my current reading:
Foot:
Italian: 14 units - 8 Venetian regiments, 2 Maltese regiments, 1 Papal regiment, 1 Tuscan regiments, 2 units of marines
German: 6 units - 3 Hanoverians regiments, 3 Saxon regiments
Greek & Balkan irregulars: 3 units
Horse:
Italian: 5 units Venetian Cavalry, 3 units Venetian Dragoons
Greek & Balkan irregulars: 6 units
This may not be totally historically accurate, but it is designed to give some flexibility and variation in the games.
I have been busy designing the flags for this, all the Venetians are done. I couldn't find a lot of information on the internet so I based all upon the little I did find. Just the joy of waiting for the order to wing it's way to me in NZ now.
Cheers

Welcome to the 'club' ;) :-w
Missed this on posting!
Looks interesting - you've enough figures for a one to twenty ratio there. Wouldn't take much more to go one for one ;)
Look forward to the piccies!

Lorna would divorce me ;D ;D
I have just finished designing all the flags and Leon has emailed to say he has posted the package off :D
With a bit of luck, by the time I have settled into Pukekohe they should have arrived.
Cheers

That'll be a nice house warming pressie :)
You can probably slip a few packages in under cover of the house move :D
I was wondering today if you had managed to secure the place you mentioned a while ago. Good to hear the move is on
I'm currently sat in a house full of boxes. removal firm due on Wednesday to load van to take down south.
Lorna and the cats are already in Pukekohe, I am just finishing up here, before heading down Wednesday night.
Cheers
Ian
Good to hear, I hope the final part of the move goes smoothly
Move went well, even better was there was a parcel waiting for me when I arrived from a certain Middlesbrough based company. Not opened it yet as the place is still chaos, I must be patient ;)
Cheers
Ian
Great news :) :) :)
Your patience is impressive :-w ;)
Stay on target, Gold Leader! Paints & brushes out first, then the lead :D
Well, the house is sorted, and more importantly my games room is back up and running.
I have prepped and stuck on sticks the 1st three Venetian units, 1 foot, 1 dragoon and 1 horse. Will undercoat these later today after we get back from the beach. Then I can paint them tomorrow.
Cheers

If you don't mind me asking , What made you move down from the stunning Bay of Islands area?

C'mon, you can enjoy the stunning Freshwater West (sand shell cottage, sadly!), with its breakers crashing in all the way across the Atlantic from the 'States! It'll be bracing, Phil!
Almost the last time I went 'to the beach', there was a chap with errrr.....what do you call it.....a windsurfing kite ?
Von and I watched him for a few minutes, which the chap spotted.
"Would you like to have a go ?", he asked, in very friendly way.
"Ummm...no...That's very kind of you to offer.....But that would almost certainly take me off my feet, and then dump me a few hundred yards out, in the Irish sea !"
(See.....I'm not TOTALLY daft.) :P
Cheers - Phil

Yes, the Bay of Islands is very pretty but it is deserted. The Far North District, of which the Bay of Islands is part of, is about the size of North Yorkshire but has only 60,000 inhabitants, Kerikeri being the largest town with around 5,000 inhabitants. Most of them in retirement homes, I lived in Kerikeri and at 53 it seemed as if I was in the younger part of the age range. There is no public transport, the roads are poor quality and the local council is inept to say the least.
The three main employers are the council, the prison and Top Energy. As unemployment is double the national average, you are stuck in your job as the rest is seasonal low paid fruit picking work. The shops only opened during work hours and for a couple of hours on a Saturday morning, the prices for everything was a little bit more than Auckland. Wages are about 10% lower than NZ average and 20% lower than Auckland. House prices were increasing insanely due to the influx of Aucklanders.
I now live outside of Auckland, with a train station in walking distance. We are more rural than we were in Kerikeri, but with modern amenities close at hand, including motor racing, rugby, bars, cafes, restaurants...
There are also two wargames groups within 10km of me, which is good.
The far north is a nice place for a holiday but I would not recommend living there, not even in retirement.
Cheers

Here are the first painted units 1 of Dragoons and 1 of foot
and here is a cavalry unit. I have painted these myself, usually I get others to paint for me. These figures were so easy to paint, I was actually enjoying painting. I usually hate painting :)
