I love reading everyone's painting diaries and there are some great ones on the forum. thought I'd add my own as it might just get my painting moving again after an abysmal year of output in 2017.
I doubt I'll be anywhere near as prolific as the likes of Will (Mad Lemmey), Fred, Paulr or Peter (1,000 figs!!!!) but I hope to get a few hundred figures done.
The painting desk at the mo.

complete tip.
A few Egyptian tanks being finished off. A squad of vietnam special forces on the far right, a couple of SYW 6lbs, the ancient spanish range prepped and partly started and on the box in the back ground - shadespire 28's a bloodbowl treeman and more t/54's.
The projects I'm on at the mo are -
10mm
Punic wars - err.... bought lots of models but not started really
Trajan's Dacian wars - quite a few Imperial Romans done but a few years back so may get revisited, got lots of dacians but waiting to mix in the new sculpts when Techno gets there
Hastings - a lot of Normans done but scant few of Harold's lot
Mongols - in bags apart from Kublai, waiting on TB line stuff to be released
Quebec - British advancing quite well, French not so
WWII - Battle of the bulge - lots of models (inc buildings) but not started with any paint
Korea - a few tanks started but waiting on Techno for the infantry
Indochina - sort of started
Vietnam - lots of infantry, tanks, choppers etc for the yanks finished :), NVA/Vietcong not so :(
Arab Isreali Yom Kippur - plenty of armour underway no infantry, waiting on Techno for everything else (its a theme :D)
Zombies - love zombies
and helping out Leon with any web pics
28mm
Mostly board game stuff
Bloodbowl - 14 teams in various states of completion
Mice and Mystics - sort of started
Shadespire - only 8 models, I must at least get these done!
Walking dead all out war - oh shiney! moment but like the models
WoR Perry 28's - going for ultimate eye candy army (one day, one day)
I'm going to try and post some proper pics at the end of each month of everything completed within that month, so hopefully lots of pics.
If you are passing pull up a chair and stay for a look around :D
Cheers
Matt
Nice plans Mat!
Looking forward to seeing some pics from what looks like a busy painting schedule.
Looking forward to seeing your progress Matt. Your list of projects seems as long as the rest of us - though I do like the excuse of blaming Phil for not having sculpted the range yet. You can then blame Dave for not having moulded them and Leon for not casting them, genius.
Your painting area truly is a tip ;) I at least manage to keep the models off the paint!

I was just about to say how neat it was compared to mine :P :P
Guess I'll go away and wallow now ;D ;D
Lots on the go Matt, looking forward to seeing them progress :)
Looks like prioritising some opponents, e.g. Harold's lot and the French for Quebec, will allow you to get some forces on the table
Will be following!
Your painting area looks ok considering where i store my paints.(haven't got a fixed spot to paint)
they are in there somewhere ;D

I'm lucky I have a whole room I can use but I have a really small desk (on my wife's insistence) she works with me and know how messy I am at work. I mess one desk up then move on to another, the staff dread going on holiday as I 'requisition' any free desk ;D
Managed to do tracks and weathering on a platoon of T-62's last night hopefully finish them tonight :-bd
Slow progress last couple of weeks - due to man flu and having to run eldest daughter around the country for Uni interviews - York, Salford, Sheffield and Falmouth (which was a back breaker!).
But looks like I should finish the first batch of Egyptian armour by the end of the month - 5 x T54/55, 3 x T62, 2 x SU 100, 2 x PT76 - which is a good base to build on.
Next batch of Vehicles are some modern additions for Leon (which he handed over last March! :!!)
Great idea to use contact lens cases as palettes.
Specsavers deliver me three with every 3 months' supply of lenses; I've been reluctant to just bin them afterwards and now a whole new use presents itself.
QuoteGreat idea to use contact lens cases as palettes
Yes pretty handy for mixing in.
Although I'm interested to give the wet palette a try mentioned by Paulr in another thread.
Right, this is what I managed to get finished in Jan (though not necessarily started in Jan ;)).
Definitely seem an increase in my output which is good, just trying to do a bit every day even if squeezing in half hour.
In 10mm
SYW Quebec- the two British light guns used in the battle

I have some reinforcements for my US forces for 'Nam.

Egyptian armour for Yom Kippur war - these aren't completely finished as I'll add aerials afv markings at a later date

I wish I had learned about wet palettes years ago, it has definitely made my painting much easier. One of the biggest pluses is that if you need to do a touch up the paint is already on your palette. The consistency of the paint is easier to maintain and I suspect I'm wasting much less, not having to put some more on the palette each time I need the colour

Cracking stuff Matt. I think I like the battered looking Egyptian armour the best.
Wet palette sounds interesting - with mainly painting 28s at the minute an using small amounts of paint for highlights etc, it would help being able to go back to colours. Might have to look into it.
Those are superb! Jealous! 8)

Really simple and cheap to try; an air tight sandwich container or similar, a paper towel and a piece of baking paper (not grease proof paper) and a little water is all you need
Those are nice!
:)

working now
Apologies for my technofuzz intermission above.
Cheers guys

Yep loved doing the Egyptian armour, nice to do modern tanks, about twice the size of the WW2 ones!
Painting been a bit scratchy over last week but have started a human Bloodbowl team, applied some paint to some samples of Phil's excellent ancient Spanish range and assembled a mix of more modern armour (progress pics to follow).
Also managed to get some games in of Shadespire early in the week, so those minis may get a push up the queue!
Cheers
Matt
Sorry, Matt....I missed the awful painting job you've done on those figures/vehicles on the first page, because of the 'testing' on this page.
You just had to put down 'technofuzz'.....Nobby will make a meal out of that one.
Cheers - Phil. (Oh, all right..I lied..You've done a superb job on those !!) :-bd :-bd :-bd :-bd
"Technofuzz"?
No. I got nothing. :^o
I'll just keep waiting, shall I ?......You OIK !! :-w :-w :-w :-w :-w
Cheers - Phil. (I'll do some 'Googling' later to see if I can guess what's going to get posted.)
thanks Phil :)
QuoteNobby will make a meal out of that one
Nobby eating Technofuzz....... :o
shall we not go there
Well Feb was pants, barely a brush picked up, did assemble quite a few 10mm tanks but poor progress overall :-<
I blame the weather, kids, wife etc etc (and a mild Fortnite addiction :-[)
Feb bad for me as well due to a real mix of things. Started finishing off some tanks this week which feels nice.

I find there is definitely something therapeutic about working on tanks...
Back on the bandwagon, little but often appears to be the plan at the mo.
Finished samples of the Ancient Spanish range, ready to photo and send up to Leon.

after I finish this lot.
Vietnam stuff - walker bulldog, duster and M155 plus an Aussie Bridgelayer
For the middle east - IDF M60A1, Jordanian M47 patton
Korea - Pershings
Plus the M60A2 starship , which I'm cogitating over :-
=P~ =P~ =P~
NICE !! (Can't wait to see the final piccies !)
Cheers - Phil
Looking great
From what I can, they look pretty damned good to me 8)
Cheers guys, the ancient Spanish sculpts are great, Phil has really done his research little things like the rings on the back of the caetra and the heavy handle, good stuff!
Also been sorting out my old citadel and gw models prior to our house going on the market. Tonnes of epic and soooooooooo many options for Dragon rampant.
:-bd =D> :-bd
Those Spanish look great, I'd forgotten about this range.
So had I.
(No change there, then ! :-[ :-[)
Cheers - Wotshisname
Very nice indeed

Andy
I love your tanks. The other figs are looking good too.
Well after 6 months I'm back on the hobby horse. Its been hard work doing anything what with finishing the house to go on the market and while it has been on the market SWMBO has demanded the removal of any evidence of human existence so most of my stuff has gone into storage.
3 months later (and sick to the teeth with time wasters trolling up from down south to waste our time after watching too much 'escape to the country') we may have a buyer (or 2) so I'm tentatively getting back into it.
I pulled out everything I had to hand on the desk with the view to a sort (this is just the tip of the iceberg with regards the full lead mountain)
In the bags underneath everything is the falklands range to do for Leon and the gaps to fill the modern vehicle ranges.
Back left on the board are mice and mystic figures which just require the bases finishing (hurray - only had these 18 months and haven't played the game yet!) along with 10mm zombies and survivors.
In front of those are quite a few Vietnam vehicles and Arab-Isreali tanks based and bagged.
Primed in the middle are Vietcong bases and behind those 4 SYW brit battalions to prime.
Back right is some epic 40k based ready to prime- these are adeptus mechanicus and knights (the huge swathes of IG and Chaos forces are in storage somewhere)
finally at the front right are some recent purchases of US korean infantry to go with the armour I already had.
I think I'll carry on doing some more basing this week, finish priming everything then probably paint something that isn't on the list above....
Welcome back to the paint mines Matt!
Really looking forward to seeing all of the above, Matt. :)
Cheers - Phil
Been busy the last few weeks assembling basing and priming a lot of post war kit
(https://i.imgur.com/RajnEGd.jpg?3)
On the right is the start of the korean war stuff - US rifle company, Pershings, Chaffees, M3's, assorted other vehicles for website pics and several t34/85's to start the north koreans off. This lot is for early war with the initial north korean steamroller and then the break out from Pusan. At some point I'll be adding some Chinese and brits in winter kit for Imjin and maybe some winter US for Chosin.
The centre is the last of the vehicles and kit I need for US Vietnam forces - M48's, Walker Bulldogs (for ARVN), Sheridans, Dusters and M113 ACAVS - A load of Vietcong bases and the bits to finish off my Aussie contingent - infantry platoon and troop of centurions.
Also a small selection of Falklands Argentinians for website photos (Brits to follow)
On the left is more Arab -Isreali stuff - Sherman and T34 derivatives (monsters) (website pic stuff) M60's more Centurions. And behind those more modern vehicles for website photos (conway, early cent, M60A3 and ferrets) and some M60 starships and Sheridans which I'm thinking of using for some possible US intervention in latin america.
I like personalising vehicles so I've been adding crew, machine gunners etc (I think open topped vehicles should always have some crew inside) and liberal usage of the track armour pack (MDV44) which is great for adding some character to AFV's.
A small request though, when sculptors do tank commanders can they sculpt on the open hatch? Been a slight pain adding hatches to everything. I think it is only the WW2 germans that have a tank commander with sculpted hatch.
Just got a few loose ends to finish off and then I'll get cracking on these.
Wow, brilliant

Love the mice figures, are you doing Redwall or Mouse Guard? YUK! Hate spiders, they are not even allowed on a table here. In my to do stacks I have both Redwall and Watership Down.
Terry
Mice are for the "Mice & Mystics" board game/ rpg, Terry.
Very nice they are too.
Yeah, that's some excellent work. I painted up a set of this for a niece but not as nicely as you have done.
I was tempted to pick up the bird riding M&M game but somehow resisted.
Lovely work, Matt !!

Cheers chaps :)
The models have plenty of character but they aren't the most detailed and are in that sort of bendy type plastic.
I've had the game about 18 months (saw Peter's post on it and liked what I saw :)) but this weekend was first outing, couldn't get my daughter off the internet but managed to entice my son away from Fortnite and into playing the first chapter. He played for and hour and half and looking forward to the next chapter! (amazing considering he's asd/adhd). A couple more years and I'll have him battling with space marines :)

good job, they look better than mine!
Not as easy a game as it looks is it? I've got through chapter 4, but had to restart a couple of times because i kept losing!

I have tail feathers (the bird riding one as you call it). Played once, and will play again, fun game and some neat mechanics in there. (i love the fact you can stand on a leaf, cut it free and then glide it across the board :D )

Yes we very nearly ran out of time on the first chapter it was a bit of a slugfest - if those minions keep rolling cheeses time soon runs out and we were down to 2 wounded heroes in the last fight!
Lovely, lovely painting 8)

Filch really helps stealing cheese off the wheel with his ability, never leave Barksburg without him! favourite combo of mine is use filch to attack and possibly steal a cheese, then use colin's command ability to make him do it again! (or vice versa, depending on initiative order)
Managed to get a Bloodbowl game in on Monday - Norse V Chaos Dwarves
[im](http://i.imgur.com/pBKeCOF.jpg?1) (https://imgur.com/pBKeCOF)[/img]
one for the 'special team plays' - lots of interceptions, fumbles and sacks! - and horrible violence :D
1 - 1 in the end due to me completely missing an obvious touchdown play while I put the boot into the yeti :o
October was epic :D
Managed to finish a small force of 6mm Adeptus Mechanicus.

As usual purchases seem to outpace painting - picked up some 6mm mdf ruins for a city board and Test of Honor to add to the other recent game box purchases (Walking Dead All out war, Silver Tower, Betrayal at Calth....) that I tend to open the lid occasionally go ooooh and put away again.
Gaming wise - just a couple of quick fun games of Shadespire (must buy more warbands)
Next on the painting table are a Halfling Bloodbowl team, which is not far from finishing, company of US Korean troops and several North Korean T 34's (well under way) and Falklands Argentinians samples.
Matt
Nice.
Beautiful work!

Thanks guys, some of these are pretty old models, bought when I was a kid 25-30 years ago so about time they got done!
