It is 7 AM Christmas Day and I have posted a long post on the 'reflections and looking forward' style of post. It is a long chatty post that needs a coffee moment, but has the specific purpose of just proving wargame related content for anyone who finds themselves with time on their hands, on a day in which hobbywise, the internet is very quiet.
For anyone interest

07.31 on said day and off to have a read of your post Norm. Son awake, wife and daughter dead to the World. A rare moment of peace before the mania of presents opening in a few hours. Have a great day Norm and hope you get some nice pressies.
Have a great day, Norm !!
It's gone 8:30 and I'm the only one awake......Oh...Alright, I DID let the four labs out at about 5:30 this morning.
Collie's asleep on the bed with the better half, The Mother in law hasn't stirred yet....and i'm hoping for a nice laid back day, watching some new DVD's.
Cheers - Phil
Youngest woke at 07:30, eldest walked into our room, looked at my alarm clock, shrugged and said "reasonable!", 1h08 of five year old opening presents so far!
Peace and joy to all.
It's 21:43 on Christmas evening and I'm winding down after a fun day
I'll read your post on Boxing day Norm ;)
Enjoy your Christmas day all
"it has been too easy to flop down in front of the computer screen and spend too many hours browsing instead of doing something 'real'. I suspect I am in good company with others!"
Keeping You company there Norm ;D
10.17hrs. Four Labs walked & fed, horses fed, up the glen, checked sheep. Wife off to check touch base with her duty staff in the care home- Turkey in oven.
Late Xmas Eve night around a peat & log fire roasting chestnuts & marshmallows, followed by supper of hot dogs and mulled wine. I am told there are some nice "n gauge" items under the tree for me. tried to brief intoxicated family on B Day game and refresh them on BKC rules. Usual fight over who gets "Harry Palmer" (converted Minifigs figure/secret agent) in the 10mm role play,
. SKYPE dates arranged with old comrades overseas and Stateside.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all ! :)
Doesn't appear to be particularly quiet, as I sit here having a coffee, Bing crooning and me perusing my Wurrtembergers.
Recovering from being frozen half to death at the Pont du Gard. Lee says next time we bring our own car. Words of wisdom.
A really interesting read Norm :-\
Your comments on screen time parallel my own recent thoughts, I'm trying to spend more time reading books and painting.
So much so I've read your post in three sessions while waiting for the paint to dry on my current batch of AWI figures ;)
I'm fortunate that I started in 6mm and have only recently moved to the bigger scale, 10mm ;D
A lot of the terrain, e.g. hills, roads and trees, can be used for both scales
I have to admit one brief foray into 15mm Flames of War to divert my son from Games Workshop :-[
Being on the other side of the world from most of the new and shiny distractions has helped me remain focused on projects and I find posting in the Painting Diaries sub-board encourages me to paint :!!
Rather than 'Tigers at Normandy' how about 'Tigers at Caen' or 'Tigers at Villers Bocage' :-B
On speed painting, I tend to do a 'black' wash very near the end of my painting. It tidies up all the various 'edges' very nicely
Not having one of the required 'profiles' makes commenting directly on the post a challenge

Thanks Paul, I like your Tigers at *** thoughts.
After your blackwash, do you find a need do go back in and just dab in a few highlights?

I use diluted Tamiya X-19 Smoke for the wash, it is a translucent paint, so I usually don't need to redo any highlights
I also tend to pick slightly lighter colours knowing I will black wash
I do a final 'highlight' with Vallejo 70986 Deck Tan to give a slight lift and faintly dusty effect, you can see it on the black horse's tack in the second to last picture here, http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,16785.msg248358.html#msg248358 (http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,16785.msg248358.html#msg248358)
I use a 1" artists brush and apply a couple of downward only strokes to each figure using the opposite side of the brush to the side I put the paint on (if that makes sense)
A really quick and easy way to get a very very light dry brush
Thanks, I like the dusting idea, I do it to vehicles and never thought about the troops, good shout.
My latest 'mix' is Vallejo black wash (which well pigmented) with 1 of floor polish and 1 of water - That still needs a highlight, so I will try the dry brush instead ..... anything that gets the speed up!
