Title: Javis Desert wargame mat - query
Post by: Sunray on 26 November 2017, 04:32:32 PM
I am mined to purchase one of these -  remove a few of the "rocks" and green it up to be more savannah looking.  The terrain you get between scrub grassland and desert.

Has anyone purchased one and are these modifications possible ?

Have looked at the javis stuff in the past, but never bought. From what I seen you can remove some rocks. Doesn't matter I you "damage" those parts a bit, if you flock Over them I assume.

Thanks Peter,  I will probably  cut and mount on  hardboard .  I also purchased the "muddy ditch " - which  in 10mm will scale  up to a decent river.

A few raised bank features, some white water and  Irregular's wooden bridge & perhaps even a potential ford .  :-

There's a lovely scene in the movie Patton where American armour stop at a river unable to find a ford.   Patton regales them from the other bank.

In real life - after heavy tropical rain it was not unusual to spot an unhappy squaddie waist deep in a river armed with  red and white poles.

There was even a unit in the Falklands - who shall remain nameless - who missed their beachhead LZ in the darkness, and had to resort to the hi-tec of the squaddie with the long white (RN issue) depth pole prior to disembarking.  :)
