Title: Heads for 1/32 Airfix
Post by: Heedless Horseman on 01 November 2017, 01:14:55 AM
Found some old Aiirfix soft plastic 1/32 figs from LONG ago in a bed drawer! Instead of doing PROPER stuff like getting on with my 10s, am feeling curious  about headswapping a few...to put tin hats on Commandos or helmets on Afrika Korps. Thought is to use figs as test pieces for uniform colours/washes...and just, maybe, play with them! lol. Could just decapitate and swap but wondering if anyone knows of CHEAP U.K source for helmeted heads for 1/32? The stuff that I have found is mainly from out of U.K and far too costly for what would be just a 'curiosity' project.
Come on chaps! You ALL have some Airfix men...the ones that you used to throw stones at...but have found 'sometime' later and thought...what if I....    ;)   ;D

I keep seeing them in the model shop and thinking "what if...", never mind under the bed :D

Aside from that, sorry - can't help!

I was of course referring to likely punitive delivery costs, not the general merits of Antipodeans :P

The Historex heads look identical to the Aussie ones?

Thanks all. Found some 1/32 54mm WW1 stuff at Scalelink http://www.scalelink.co.uk/acatalog/Army_Equipment.html#SID=86
Heads in various hats including Tin Hat and loose Tin Hats. They look just slightly, a little bit small on Airfix Commandos but they are big, hefty figures! Actually found the loose helmets easier with a pin added as an anchor.
SMLE Mk1, ammo boxes and Vickers belts also there and would do for WWII. Don't think the German Helmets would work though as WWII helmet was more compact AFAIK.
Stuff is for superdetailing models so a bit expensive when postage added.

Also found Airfix Strongpoint cottages not too expensive on ebay and a couple of Dinky Bren Carriers that were missing bits so cheap...but you can get replacement bits from other ebay suppliers!
I had not realised that Airfix did a set of  1/32 British infantry for N Europe...and changed to a hard plastic...after my time! Nor that Matchbox/Revell sold their figures in 1/32.

This cost-free, fun project is getting expensive!  ;D ;D ;D

If it helps keep the cost down, Amera have some good stuff in 1/35th for scenery :)

Thanks for that TP. Maybe.
Ah! Vac Formed battlefield stuff...can remember the joys of getting  BIG (Bellona?) Ravinel/Port/Trench terrain pieces for unpainted 1/76 Airfix...and the annoyance when all your little men fell over every time it got nudged!  ;D
Some may still be in the garage...totally inaccessible and probably crushed flat with a garnish of rat poo.   :o
Also, I learned early on...that plastic does not like being heated over a candle to create ledges...the resultant holes were like entrances to Hell!  :'(

Sound slike very apt scenery for the realistic battlefield!

Not sure I'd want to play on it mind :D

Amera are good - quick, cheap and nice stuff. Unless you really don't like vac-formed stuff, in which case, well, don't use 'em ;)
