Title: Katanga Gendarme uniform shade
Post by: Sunray on 24 October 2017, 12:25:22 AM
On Pin interest I stumbled on a neat image of a 1960's early Katanga Gendarme - British WW2 helmet, with a yellow V, leather belt with 37 pattern pouches and a grey-stone shade of Belgian tropical  uniform. Weapon looks like Mauser type carbine.

I need a Vallego that comes close.  Nearest I can find is VAL 986 Deck Tan ?? - but is it the shade the colour strip suggests ?

Suggestions very welcome .  :) :)

Can you post the picture you're working from, or give a link to it?

Many thanks for this. Useful source.  From my years in Africa, I can tell you that even then dress of regular armies is seldom uniform.

However on the table I do like a degree of uniformity.  Particularly as dress code can signify BKC troop AP.

I just saw a simple stone grey uniform that would do nicely for 1950s era conscript AP2 or Gendarme AP3 types.  And use WW2 Brits as the base figure.

It would be close to Royal Marines No6 (tropical) shirt tone. Now, what paint will tick that box ?

There's loads of really handy stuff on Junior General :D

Usual caveats of sources and accuracy etc etc.

I've spent the morning listening to "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner", just so you know.

Perhaps ending it by watching the cracking movie "Siege of Jadotville" from Netflix? Highly recommended.
Cheers,

I have opened a thread on Jadotville in the "books" section.

VAL 986 Deck Tan is a very light tan, I've used it for linen on my AWI and highlights for others
