OK you voted for them so here they are the Vikings Saxons and Normans from my 'You Choose' tiopic earlier in the year.
First up the Anglo-saxons (purely because there are so many of the little feckers!) I aim to have all three armies debut on the gaming table by February. I did cheat a bit with this timesacle as the minis arrived a month ago and are already based. I'm also taking advantage of some beautiful late autumn weather here in Sunny Suffolk to get them underoated ahead of winter.
Hopefully (third time lucky... >:() with pics.

Had that done some years ago ;)
Thought that was obvious ;D
=O :-bd =O
16 huscarls painted over the weekend but I'm going to fall pianfully short of my Feb target - still at least I'm back painting ;)
Thats the core of the Anglo-danish done less two command stands. Aim to start on a similar core of Normans soon which might mean that I can get a smallish game in durimng February.

Good man - I've not painted anything at all in January...I must be ill :)
Is it really that long since I picked up a paintbrush..... 17th January!!!! Now the cricket seasons here it could be some time before I get anything else done :(
I think the single best piece of advice I can give in order to increase anyone's painting output is this:
STAY OFF THE INTERNET
:D :-B :D
Too true ;).

Right-ho! Having another bash at getting these out before I find have had them for a year... :o
Review of whats done and whats to come...
DONE:
16x stands of Huscarl, 32x stands of Select Fyrd.
STARTED TODAY:
16x stands of Lesser Fyrd
TO DO:
3x stands of Command, 4x stands of Cavalry, 16x stands of Select Fyrd, 18x stands of Skirmishers.
TARGET DATE: 24th July, which will leave me two weeks before I go on holiday to make a start on the Norman Milites to pit them against ;)
Dangerous time of the year for me this. Junior Cricket coming to a close and family holiday approaching (see seperate thread). I usually find that after the summer it gets harder and harder to find time to paint :d
16 stands of lesser fyrd started today, finished today :)

Hmmm So I have stopped painting to come on the internet to read the advice to stay off the internet so that I can get more painting done............My head hurts
You expect logic around here....

No pics until I am finished :( - determined to get this one done on target ;)
Just finished the last 16 Fyrd leaving 4 cavalry and 3 command to go. Just flocking left to do beyond that and ten days in which to do it.
Mounted huscarls x4 done, Command x3 done - flocking to do and then army complete ahead of *schedule* ;)
Not the original schedule :-[ but the re-scheduled schedule :D Pics once flocking is done, just for Mr H :P

Excellent, looking forward to seeing them! 8)
Army finished with pics
http://nosherswargames.blogspot.com/2011/07/anglo-danish-in-10mm-for-fogwmahc.html
just realised that I have done myself a misjustice thinking these took a year to do. Looking back at my first post its actually 8 months and I was recovering from a major operation (lobotmy) when I started the project.
So, if lgis is right, you should be seeing the Normans in Feb 2012 and the Vikings in October 2012!!!
Looking great sir!
Well done!
All done, and looking good! 8)
All the hard work paid off - they look great 8)
Cheers,
Kev
Very nice nosher mate, very nice 8)
Looking really good Nosher! Should be a lot of fun fielding that army.
Normans next up. :)
3x Cmd, 12x Milites (Mounted), 4x Milites (dismounted), 20x Spearmen, 6x Archers, 6x X Bow, 12x Skirmish Archers/X Bow, 8 x Breton Allied cavalry, 4x Breton Allied Skirmish Cavalry, 4 X French Allied Cavalry.
4x Mounted Milites done and 8 started. 16 spear started.
Got two weeks to go before family holiday kicks in and wargaming is banned. Got family funtcions this weekend and next so paiting time likely to be minimal between now and end of august.
Target date for this lot. Late September/Mid october.
12 mounted milites down!
Think I'll take a slightly different tack with this lot and get all the cavalry finished first, then tackle the infantry
Keep going mate - you'll get these done before you scoot off for hols at this rate :)
4x Breton Allied Skirmish Cavalry & 4 X French Allied Cavalry polished off this afternoon. Aim is to get the remainder of the cavalry and the command stands done before I bugger off for the summer hols :)
Discussed the slight/remote/passing possibility of me taking a *few* figures away on holiday with SWMBO but it fell on deaf ears :(
Two can play that game. When she wants to window shop whilst away I'll have left my wallet at *home* :D

:D
All the cavalry and command done ahead of schedule. ;)
Will pick up on this one when I get back from the holiday - pics included (too wet to do any today as its pissing it down!)
Nicely done old boy - have a good break 8)
Back off hols and all the usual issues getting in the way of motivation to get this lot finished :d
Work, real life, need to earn a wedge to pay for next wargaming project :D
Anyway, took a slightly different route and played a smallish game with what I have managed to paint so far including a few units I still have left to paint to see if that would get the juices flowing and one game and 12 stands of archers later I have made another dent in this lot ;)
Skirmishers and foot left to do - basing and flocking and varnishing and should have enough to do 1066 :)
No pics of game cos I broke the cardinal sin and fielded unpainted units :o

I know :( but at least it motivated me to start these again rather than get distracted by those minis from our latest 'transaction' ;)
That's fair enough :D
12 spear done 12 to do. If I never see another dark ages miniature it will be too soon :D I am slowly losing the will to live painting all those bloody shields!
After the spears only skirmishing and medium foot crossbows to go. Basing and flocking still to come.
Nice progress mate - looking forward to seeing these completed 8)
12 more done (dismounted Milites) now only 6 elements of crossbow and 6 elements of skirmishing crossbow left to do.
Getting there slowly but surely ;)
Good man - and now that the season's pretty-much over, you've got no excuse mate, eh? ;) :d

Other than taking on responsibility for coaching the county U13 Girls team and playing indoor cricket twice a week ;) Still, I'd trade this position for the position I was in this time last year while I was waiting for my back operation :(
Crossbow done - army finished (less tidying up bases and flocking - which I'll get done over the coming week with a bit of luck) pics on blog over the coming week (weather permitting)
:) ;) :D :)
I know for one thing that the Vikings WILL NOT BE NEXT :o
I need a break from Dark Ages and have plenty of other periods to work on including:
1. Ayyubid Egyptians and Crusaders
2. Napoleonic French
3. Indochina (but need some more figs for this)
4. Sudan Colonial (but need more figs for this)
5. Samurai
6. ECW (both sides)
7. Shitloads of medieval figs (WoTR, 100YW, generic medieval)
8. Carolingian, Rus and Byzantine
and thats just the stuff in 10mm/stuff that I can remember about :-[ I'm sure there are others that I will stumble across, plus its been some time since I last 'invested' in a 'little bit' :d more lead :D :D :D
Got my eyes on some greeks and persians ;)

Ready to battle the Saxon host awiting them at Senlac Ridge!
Those are AWESOME! Nice work Nosher. 8)
Excellent! :-bd
They look really good, both individually and as an army.
The shields on the cavalry are particularly nice. I like the lower density of figures on a base too - I am so used to the "crowded" look of WM figures, that these look quite fresh and open - if that makes any sense.
Cheers chaps :-[
Although I found this army a nightmare in terms of motivating myself to finish it, I am pleased with the overall result.
Found some more 10mm yesterday evening, add to the to do list:
9. Polish renaissance
Looking very nice mate, very nice :-bd
You did a great job there, Nosher! Nice blog as well! 8)
I can't post remarks to your blog however, even after joining.
