Title: Battleground! - Sat 25th Nov 2017

Battleground 2017 takes place on Saturday November 25th, at the Queen's Campus Sports Hall in Stockton-on-Tees, TS17 6BH, running from 10am until 3pm.  Our big news is that this is our 5th year running the event, so we're offering FREE ENTRY for everyone!

We've currently looking to have 37 traders attending the show, with a few changes from last year's lineup.  We should have them all confirmed by early October but you can see the expected list here: http://www.battlegroundshow.co.uk/#!traders/c24i2 (http://www.battlegroundshow.co.uk/#!traders/c24i2)

We'll once again have a fantastic selection of display and participation games on offer, with 25 games expected at the moment.  We're still collected the game info from a lot of our clubs, but we'll keep updating the lists here: http://www.battlegroundshow.co.uk/#!games/c19qp (http://www.battlegroundshow.co.uk/#!games/c19qp)

The living history groups have always been a popular attraction and this year we're hoping to have the Durham Pals, Lonestar and Vanguard all returning for 2017.

Our Tabletop Sale is always busy and we might be expanding the number of tables for this year, depending on demand.  For only £1 per half hour slot, you can sell as much as you like, with no commission at all!  You can deal directly with the buyers, answer any questions they may have, and also keep an eye on your goods. Once your time is up (or better still, you've sold everything!), you can walk away, cash in hand, and enjoy the rest of the show!  This year we'll try and add a couple more tables, but please make sure to book in early if you can.  Bookings can be made through the contact section of the website: http://www.battlegroundshow.co.uk/#!contact/cn3p (http://www.battlegroundshow.co.uk/#!contact/cn3p)

All of the show info can be found on either the Battleground website here: http://www.battlegroundshow.co.uk/ (http://www.battlegroundshow.co.uk/) or our Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/BattlegroundShow?ref=hl (https://www.facebook.com/BattlegroundShow?ref=hl)

Don't forget to tell your friends about the FREE ENTRY and we hope to see you there!

We're only 10 days away from Battleground 2017 now, so for anyone unsure of where the venue is, here's the directions!

By Road:
Coming down from the North on the A19 (Sunderland, Newcastle, Scotland, etc.) - https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/5e7f9e_38479f1826624292916622adc3eb771f.pdf (https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/5e7f9e_38479f1826624292916622adc3eb771f.pdf)
Coming from the East on the A66 (Middlesbrough town, Whitby, Scarborough, etc.) - https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/5e7f9e_4215fec80b9a4679b88a76fbd47dccd5.pdf (https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/5e7f9e_4215fec80b9a4679b88a76fbd47dccd5.pdf)
Coming up from the South on the A19 (York, Harrogate, Leeds, Sheffield, etc.) - https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/5e7f9e_fe742b2455d2415a8b69f127123efb95.pdf (https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/5e7f9e_fe742b2455d2415a8b69f127123efb95.pdf)

By Bus:

Regular services run from Stockton and Middlesbrough to Teesdale and X1 services from Newcastle, Durham, Sedgefield and Middlesbrough stop outside the Holliday Building on University Boulevard.  There are several bus stops on the campus, the closest ones for Battleground being either the Holliday Building stop, or outside the Stockton Riverside College.

By Train:
East Coast Main Line operate high speed services from London, York and Edinburgh to Darlington, with a connection to Thornaby Railway Station.

The Transpennine Express provides a direct approximately hourly service from Manchester Airport, Manchester, Leeds and York to Thornaby.

Northern Rail operate a regular service from Saltburn to Newcastle and Bishop Aukland that stops at Thornaby and Durham.

Once you arrive at Thornaby Station, climb the steps and turn right onto the footbridge.  Walk over the footbridge and turn right along Station Street.  At the roundabout go straight over onto Harvard Avenue, signposted 'University Campus', with the glass fronted buildings on your right.  Continue down this road, past the entrance to Stockton Riverside College, until you reach another roundabout.  Turn right here, signposted 'University of Durham'.  As you reach another roundabout, the venue will be to your right, a white and grey building with the curved sports hall roof visible and 'Durham University Sports' written on the side.

Are you back yet? I've parked the car.

Left the hall bang on 3pm and got back bang on 8pm after a leisurely meander through the North of England by train. Only 2 hours and 45 mins of that was rail journey, the rest was a mix of walking to Thornaby station, waiting in Thornaby and Darlington station waiting rooms, queueing for a taxi and the taxi ride back through the scenic Edinburgh roadworks :)

Had a great day, talked to a lot of nice people, spent slightly less than I'd budgeted for. Good day all round.

Battleground seemed much busier than last year and the traders I spoke to seemed to think it had been a good days trading.

Pictures posted here, should be set to public so no need to be a Facebook member.

Works for me  :)

Some really good looking games :)

Shame about all the clutter around the Denmark Strait game X_X
Interesting that they seem to be using two different scales, are the larger ones to show fall of shot and/or damage?

Some good looking games on display. Of note are the nice info boards (two different designs I think) so that the punters know what they are looking at. Other show organisers please take note!

Battleground Show 2017 - show photos

Photos from the show, that I managed to take while working on the Colonel Bill's Wargames Depot Stall. I didn't manage to photograph all of the games, unfortunately.

[the majority of these photos were taken before the show started - that is why there isn't many people in the photos]

I have to say that I (personally) think its a great show. My favourite of the year. I've always like the Parade Ground / Battleground shows that have been held over the years. Definitely a show I'd recommend to those interested in visiting.

Cheers,
Roy

Ithoriel. When did you buy those Depot Battalion bits, I would have said hello if I'd had known it was yourself (I should have asked in advance, on here, who was attending. Doh!)

I did meet: (forum members)

Stig (er, can't remember Steve's username on here)

I was speaking to the chap running the game before the show, and iirc it was something along those lines.
1/3000 scale for tactical movement, and larger scale for displaying hits and other such occurrences of note.

I bought the amphorae wagon load from you but only realised it might be you after walking away from the stand. Circled round the hall but when I got back to Col Bill's you were talking to Stu so I held back from interrupting (so unlike me!) but then you were button-holed by someone else and I was drawn into conversation with someone who recognised me from a conversation we'd had two years before and who wanted me to meet a friend of his, so I wandered off and never quite made it back.

We need Pendraken Forumite t-shirts or lapel badges :)

Love the photos!

Pass. To the question on local accommodation. Some of the traders use a few venues, and I believe Stafford group overnight'ed(?) But I don't know which or where.
Friday night setup in the hall, back to the Travel Lodge or similar, and a quick car drive to the venue on the day of the show.

;D Ithoriel, feel free to interrupt any conversation Stu and me may be having. It won't be anything exciting that we're talking about, and more than likely Stu would be glad of not having to listen to my waffle.

Another forum I'm on use badges, but they're small and can be missed in the body press of a show, or if coats are worn become hidden. I'll be at York Show. Wearing my Colonel Bill's uniform. Even though Colonel Bill's won't be trading.

As a Pendraken Forumite sign at shows may I suggest strap on tails?

Thanks for all the pics, some really nice shots there.  I've just uploaded all of ours to the Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/388912817917645/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1061388890670031 (https://www.facebook.com/388912817917645/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1061388890670031)

I'm also still tring to get there. Is there any accommodation close to the venue?

Yep, there's a Premier Inn about 1/2 a mile from the venue, it's literally a 2 minute drive.  It's normally quite cheap as well, around £30 per night.

We need Pendraken Forumite t-shirts or lapel badges :)

Love the photos!

I've just noticed there's a 'ghost' of Ithoriel lurking in one of our photos...

Isn't that one of the images from 'Police Interceptors' where they blur the image of a potential naughty person ?
I think we should be told !!  ;)

Damn! Caught teleporting! The Ministry of Magic will be after me! Damned muggles and their cameras. Why can't you use a daemon in a box like normal people?  :D
