Title: Some Terrain
Post by: SV52 on 17 August 2017, 02:50:49 PM
Another step towards getting a game set up, terrain hexes.  About does it for 10mm, a few more buildings perhaps:

Nice! I always like to see little scenic dioramas rather than just a couple of things plunked own on the table (though I'm guilty of that too).

Really nicely done!

When I first looked at the pic of the cottage my impression was that you were using pentagonal tiles!  :)
That would have been very Escherian.

Comments appreciated comrades.

I'm going to have to do something similar for 1/72 as most of my armies are in that scale.  Problem is building scale, 15mm or bigger?  Tending toward 15mm due to available ranges and prices that won't frighten the horses.  I think they'll also fit a 3ftx3ft or 3ftx4ft table and leave room for the other scenery and the troops.

All right-thinking people go down a step for the scale of their buildings. How many times does it need to be explained? ;)

As a right thinking person I use the same down step in painting skill.

Interesting you should say that.  There's a similar discussion going on in another forum but opinion there is that the buildings MUST correspond to the figure scale.  But then again it's an all-plastic forum and they have some weird ideas anyway.

15mm sold.

The battle to seize the enemy's Wendy Houses is apparently never ending.

I play skirmish scale where 1 figure = 1 man, so building scale really MUST match mini scale (otherwise they wouldn't fit inside, apart from everything else...) However, where the figures don't have that 1:1 representation, and, therefore, the figures on the bases are themselves out of scale, I can see the use of smaller buildings being sensible.

Right, after hacking away the dead wood  :P the consensus would appear to be:

use 10mm for 10mm,
15mm for the rest,
28mm skirmish, use 28mm.

Wait a minute, what about 1/32, 1/35, 1/54, 1/48, 1/16, 1/12 et al?  I know play on floor and use house.  Old style Kreigspeil. :d

Great concept, especially the impassable terrain pieces, will steal and adapt.
