Not something I normally do so was wondering what people use to temporarily stick figures in place whilst painting?
Starting a Dux Bellorum project soon and was going for the sheildwall effect.
BlueTac
Hotglue, not too much though.
Aksu
I use a ~1:1 mix of water and Elmer's white glue. It works well and the figures detach fairly easily without bringing stick splinters with them.
Copydex (aka cow gum) - solid bond but easy to peel off once painted.
Pva or superglue. Then scapel to remove.
Is Elmers a pva glue?
Very small drip of loctite. Just cut under the base to remove.
COPYDEX - for heavens sake, just use copydex. Once painted and dry just twist them off. Simple
DON'T use PVA - I broke a steak knife getting them off the PVA!

Soak in warm water for 1/2 an hour!
I use double sided tape

Or use Copydex and not have to wait 1/2 hour first! ;D
Elmers is a PVA. The key for sticking figures is the water dilution. As Dr. Dave said, undiluted, it is hard to release BUT a water soak (as Lemmy suggest probably works too). BTW, I brush diluted Elmer's on stands and the sprinkle on flock. It drys clear and holds well - I usually don't both with a fixative spray.

Can I just check something guys, glue aside...
Do you eat the lolly first?
I use tongue depressors - as sold by Minibits - and no, I don't say, "Ah!" before using them ... though I do sometimes say,"Aaaagh!" when I peel a figure off the stick and drop said figure on the floor!
I too use Minibits tongue depressors. I find lolly sticks unnecessarily wide for painting small scale (ie perfectly normal scale!) figures. :D

A small amout of PVA works for me.
Has anyone tried Copydex? Think that might work.
I could never, ever, EVER, use Copydex. I still remember the smell of the stuff from primary school, which is so long ago that it is a tribute to the awfulness of this product that it still sends shivers down my spine! If you ever wanted to know what glue was made of, smell Copydex and instantly all the awful ingredients will swim before your eyes!

I used to use lolly sticks but found them too fiddly to hold by the edge while painting. Now I use 24cm (nearly 9.5") long bamboo plant labels from Wilko:

Pack of 10 cost £1.75 and you can get about 12-15 figures on each. Strip of double sided tape down the middle and you are off and of course they are re-usable.

I use double sided tape
Take care

Pva. Then if your the sensitive sort who doesn't like slicing them off the Lolly stick, leave them in a small amount of water and they come off next day no problem.
Jim
I just use some Vallejo primer paint. (Obviously not a spray can :D )
As some others have said, please don't use pva. I injured my hand quite badly trying to remove a model stuck with pva.

Copydex all the way - despite the smell. Just glue them on and once painted twist them off - no need for tools. The residue is a bit "gummy" so you might need to rub or peel it off the base. It will come off the stick to so you can reuse it no problems.
PVA sparingly, if the base of the figures is smooth no worries, if rough or pitted oh dear. Very noticeable in bigger scales with plastic and metal figures.

And that's from the Teacher.
I use a hot glue gun and for 10mm coffee stirrers that are free from many establishments :). If you have small children encourage them to take some - you will soon have loads . You need to glue a cross piece to stop them falling over though - the coffee stirrers with figures on not the small children
Copydex, Copydex, Copydex - it is so good they should rename it 'temporary figure sticking glue'.
failing that, just use Copydex!
Well, you say that Norm but actually ... I prefer to use Copydex ;)

Ooops! Only just read that last bit. Little Timmy was right.
Maybe if I paint the coffee stirrers silver, Timmy can pretend he's Wolverine.
By the way. Whatever happened to Originaldex? Much better than the copy.

Copydex is latex glue - I thought you were familiar with Latex in all its forms from your "other hobbies" ;)

Ah...uh... X_X
COPYDEX - I've been using this for years. Best done in the evening, the next day ready for painting. when complete just peel off, rub Copydex with finger and it comes away from whichever surface as a little rolled up ball which you then flick in the bin, No scalpel or chisel needed. Secondly, I don't use lolly sticks; I use lengths of thin dowel and a block of wood with 24 holes drilled in it slightly bigger than the dowel. This enables me to turn individual figures, including upside down, to get at all the surfaces. I posted a picture of this only a couple of weeks ago.

To me "latex" is a phrase I hope to be using at the next funeral I attend.
I have several dozen old Humbrol tins and attach the figures, one to a tin, with Bluetac.
I find the tins much more comfortable to hold than lolly sticks; I suppose plastic bottle tops would work just as well.

Me also! Works fine and has done for years.
Bluetack copies from the Poundshop or similar. It is not as good as bluetack, but can be safely used and reused several times. Do not use over open drains etc.
