Could you tell us a bit about their construction?
Yes, please
The stone bridge:
I started by cutting the 2 side walls from 3mm balsa sheet joining them together at the arch with piece of balsa pinned to follow the curve of the arch. I used the grain of the wood to allow bending as I thought this would add strength to finished model, the roadway was another sction of 3mm balsa sheet again pinning in place. The pointed side sections were cut from square section balsa, carving in the wall. I then glued these in place only cutting out the original bridge wall once dried to try to make join as seemless as possible. Then I glued to the base - 2mm plywood, painting the whole model with a thinned down plaster wash to add stone effect and also hide any joins. Once dried i spray painted the bridge dark grey drybrushing later with light grey then white. Only when I was happy with the bridge did I complete the base , which is plaster and sawdust mix painted and flocked with the water starting by painting the area with pva glue, the colours used to paint the river bieng light grey, various browns and white.
The wooden bridge:
This was so simple to do. I glued a load of matchsticks to a strip of paper, added the supports in the middle section with 1cm bits of match, once happy with height of bridge I glued the top side supports which gave shape and a bit of strength, the under supports were added once the top dried, again just matchsticks. This was painted with plaster and sanded to remove rough edges. I painted this bridge before adding to the base. The painting of this bridge took forever as i was never happy with the result, it has had so many washes/drybrushings that I have no idea what colours I settled on :D This was then added to the base which was made as above. I have also made about 4' of river using this method including a ford.
They look even nicer in the flesh ;)
Even if one did lead my French forces to their doom! :'(
