Hello,
Recently I ordered a bunch of ACW models, which I will be painting over the coming months (too many other projects running as well :-[ ).
My first stand of 10 Zouaves, including Command is finished:

I'll do some regular infantry and some cavalry next.
What I was wondering though is how you base multimodel bases? I paint all the miniatures first and then stick them to a base, but I find this a very time-consuming process. However, if I stick them to a base first and then paint them, it's difficult to paint them well, because my brush can't reach all the part of the model. Is there a solution for this or is this just one of things you'll have to get used to when painting 10mm?
Cheers
Jase
oooo they are pretty! the colours work really well together.
I always paint my figures first and then base them. I know there are people who say at this scale you can base first because the detail in the 'middle' bits isnt properly visible from table height. I'm sure this is true - but i would know and feel guilty! I usually gloss varnish the figures first as well before basing them because i tend to cause damage to the paint jobs while basing. I then finish off the whole base with a spray matt varnish when finished (which also helps hold together the flock and other stuff stuck on the base)

nice figs, speaking of bases can you tell us your technique for flocking the base? What did you use to make the sand it looks very nice. Or if not here there is a thread in the painting section discussing basing. I want my bases to look like yours. ;D
Hi!
Thanks for the kind words! I use 4cm x 2cm Litko bases, 0.8mm thick. The sand I use is regular GW sand, but I filtered it to remove all the big chunks. Then I painted it VMC Burnt Umber and drybrushed it with VGC Bleached Bone. I've almost finished painting my next 10 models which I will base then. I'll make a few photos to show you how I do my bases.
Time to do som threadomancy :)
Just finished my first ACW skirmish stand: Berdan's Sharpshooters (another stand is in the works). Updates will be more frequent than this one (took me almost about a year :P )

Some lovely painting on the figures there. Very nice indeed.
However, i think the base detracts from that. Its an odd colour green and seems a bit 'washed out'. :-\
Thanks!
The colour of the base is something I'm not quite happy with either. However, its colour will mathes the colour of my felt mat. Of course I will add some flock to brighten things up after varnishing.
Good stuff, it's nice to see the ACW figures in a different colour for a change.
I hope that we shall see some figures from you entered into the painting competition, some really nice work there. Looking forward to seeing more of your work in the future. :)
Nicely based. :-bd

I wondered why I hadn't spotted those before....Then I looked at the dates. ;)
They are rather nice !!
Cheers - Phil
