Title: MOAB vs Grand Slam
Post by: fsn on 14 April 2017, 01:03:40 PM
The news today is saying that the Mother of All Bombs is the biggest that has ever been dropped, at 21,000lb.

Who does it compare to Grand Slam?

I'm not after a political or religious discussion, just interested in the weaponry.

Now I saw Moab and was expecting a post on biblical warfare.

MOAB is an FAE bomb, produces massive above ground blast, Grand Slam and Tall Boy are penetrative bombs - designed to explode 10's of metres below ground, and create a minor earthquake. Both types would be good against yesterdays target.

At $16million (approx. £11 million) each  you could buy

2,260,365 Packets of Pendraken Figures.  (67 million Foot Figures sufficient to do all combatants on a 1:1 ratio)

2,483,402 Pendraken Chieftains

Just for FSN - Miss Whiplash every night for 87 years, although you might want to change her for a younger model at some point.  :d

Actually you would probably prefer to have the Pendraken Chieftains ?

I'm a bit surprised by the delivery method, chucking it out the back of a transport aircraft seems a bit primitive, but I guess it's not possible to alter a B52 or B1 to take that size bomb.

The Lancaster was modified to carry the Grand Slam, but that was probably pretty low tech compared to altering one of the new(ish) American bombers.

It uses the traditional 'TLAR'* bombsight. Something that big doesn't need to be accurately dropped I guess...

* 'That looks about right!'

Hi
Just been to the battle of Britain memorial flight visitor centre at raf conningsby today. They have a grandslam and tallboy on display and i asked the guide and he said the british bomb was definitely bigger than the Moab. He said that it has been pointed out to the Americans however theirs was the biggest airburst. God I've never so many Eurofighter typhoons in one place.
