Title: American tank crewman
Post by: Sunray on 19 February 2017, 11:26:22 PM
The brief for Korean range includes an American tank crewman/commander head & shoulders sculpt.

Research of 1950s images show crew wearing four types of head gear:

1.  The ww2 tankers helmet - this seems to be mostly worn by tank drivers in Korea

2.  The field cap - often with radio earphones.

3. the plastic helmet liner

4. the standard US army helmet worn over earphones

If we go with number 4- the helmet, it occurs to me this sculpt would be a good choice, not only for tank commanders, but the number of American AFVs open turrets that need crew -  the M8 A/C, the M10, M18 and M36.

This would spare a lot of good figures having their legs chopped off  :-bd

What do you think forum owners of such AVFs ?

Surely American tank commanders should look like this!

I am reliably informed that tank commanders took to wearing their dogtags in their boots since it the head is shot off the dogtags get lost.

Even Phil's going to find that tricky to model in 10mm  ;)

Maybe do an optional set of legs - with dog tag in boot - for those who want dismounted tank commanders to glue on  ;)
