I shall be off line for the next four days as I am off down to Oxford for the BBB Bash Day. I will be running Shiloh and will post a report on my return. Bash Day is only on the Saturday, but as I've never got out of transport when in Oxford I'm taking the advantage of having a look round (still got to do Cambridge, in fact all of East Anglia, as well).
Have fun
Safe journey - see you there
My AAR of the BBB Bash Day

Excellent stuff !

Good Show!
Greetings
It was a very good day.
I commanded part of the not very glorious French army at Mars le Tour and Gravelotte. It was my first time playing BBB and many thanks to Crispin for setting up and umpiring and helping make things happen as well as to my fellow French commander Chris and to my Prussian opponents Glyn and Mark.
The downside of playing Mars le Tour and Gravelotte back to back was the time taken - one scenario is 11 and the other 10 turns and resetting up the game for the afternoon took a little while. We were the last out of the hall at a bit after 7pm. So I took a few random photos of games it did not have much of a chance to have aclose look at anything else. A really good if tiring day.
Edward
Some good looking games, glad it all went well :) :)
It looks superb
CRacking looking games - looking forward to seeing Magenta at WMMS, and Shiloh with the 3mm looks very spiffy indeed, Leman!
It was a terrific day, with much Pendraken loveliness in action. Big thank yous to all who took part (hi Edward!), especially the GMs who laid on such beautiful games.
As far as this thread in particular is concerned, thank you to Forum stalwarts Leman and Shedman for travelling so far, putting on fine games and posting a nice AAR. Great to see you again, and I look forward to the next time!

Terrific photo report, Sherman Shedman. (bloomin predictive text again!) :-bd
Once again some great looking games and wish i could have attended, but family commitments prevented me :(.
Had a bit of trouble with my camera at the Bash Day, but nevertheless I still managed to get five photos before the thing just died on me. With regard to the two games, the result of a draw was the same in both, but the getting there was quite different in the afternoon from the morning, largely owing to the morning game producing some of the unluckiest dice rolling I've ever witnessed (bad luck chaps) resulting in the Confederate attack being rather tardy and disjointed to start with. Needless to say the night turn appeared, and then so did Buell's reinforcements. However, the Union were unable to retake Shiloh church.
In the afternoon game the Rebs were off like a shot, but unfortunately for them their artillery support was very slow and spent the bulk of the game limbered (so my working on the limbers on the Thursday night before the games paid off). The Union did manage to gain control of Shiloh Church this time, but before the game ended the Confederates retook it - those guns had finally got into action.
The Bash day was remarkable fun, so a big thankyou to Chris and Cris and everyone else responsible for putting it on. It is the only time I've attended a wargame event dedicated to just one set of rules, but what a success.

The USS Tyler on the Tennessee ready to support the Union troops.
All the figures, plus the gunboat and Pittsburgh Landing are 1/600 figures from the Peter Pig Hammerin' Iron range, except command figures on unit bases, limbers and caissons and artillerymen on the heavy gun base by Oddzial Osmy, Shiloh Church in 1/600 free from Altar of Freedom website, roads and streams by Supreme Littleness, forestry by Woodland Scenics, camps and the metallic woods 2mm by Irregular, and base cloth by Deepcut..
And thank you, Andy, for your very attractive and rightly admired Shiloh layout. It was great to see you again.
Next time we will plan it so that you don't just gamemaster all day but also get to play someone else's game!
Chris
Cheers Chris; that would add an extra sparkle to the day. PS, how come an attractive market town like Abingdon has such rough pubs?
Some great looking games there. I'm getting a bit intrigued by BBB, but the games seem to be 10mm or smaller scales. How would they work with 15mm? I already have hundreds (thousand?) figures for 19th century French, Austrian, Prussian, Bavarian and Italian armies, so I wouldn't want to replace all those.
C'est magnifique, mais ce n'est pas la 10mm.
Also, not sure of the advisability of putting a gun on a railway line.
Inspiring photo's chaps!

Check out Vincent's magnificent annotated photo-AARs of his 15mm games here:

He and his group have almost fought through an entire 15-battle Franco-Prussian War campaign, among others.

Dunno - it's foreign territory to me.

Glad you like. :)
Per p3 of the BBB rulebook: "the troops of a unit actually cover a much larger area than the few square inches of its base. The bases merely represent the 'centre of gravity' of a unit". So there aren't necessarily any guns actually on the railway line. And besides, it's a railroad.
Chris
The more I see of your 3mm, the less inspired I am by going with 2mm! The larger bases work better as well, I missed a trick using 20mm, should have gone 30mm for better "mini-diorama" feel.
Very tasty - I wonder if I start storing up "partner-points" I can make next years...
Pretty sure that the Razzionville track wasn't completed in 1870, it's where Emile Zola fought. ;)
Wonderful looking games, gentlemen - thanks for posting all the picture - much enjoyed looking at them.
Leman. Particularly liked your twin paddle wheel gunboat at Shiloh.
good looking game - it prompted me to buy some 3mm stuff from Peter Pig
Not sure who was actually running the 10mm game pictured, but it certainly isn't Rezonville, as the white coated Austrians in Magenta in the background will testify.
Oops!
And nor is it in the US which is what I thought FSN was referring to, for some reason, hence my "It's a railroad" remark - sorry, FSN!
The railway in the photo is the Milan to Turin line, calling at Rho, Mageneta, Novara,Vercelli, SanthiĆ , Chivasso and Torino Porta Susa and the French did have to bring their artillery across the tracks as the railway and road embankments were the only way to cross the river Ticino

No problem. I was just worried about the 4:45 coming up from the South.
There was a rail replacement bus that day! :-B
Don't they normally use a team of blokes and loads of heavy equipment to replace rails? I'd have thought getting a bus to do it would be really hard work :D

Sergeant-major, take that man's name!
Is that by deed poll or by marriage, sah?

Thank you, thank you, if you liked that I'm Nathan, if you didn't I'm Chris! Tip the veal and try your waitress, we're here all week folks!
