Title: Figure Spacing
Post by: jimduncanuk on 11 February 2017, 03:05:51 PM
I'm trying to decide whether close order troops should be on a 10mm frontage or an 8mm frontage.

8mm, or as close as you can get them - buy more figures, Leon has a family to feed!  :D

Should be shoulder to shoulder. I seem to remember 24" per man in British regs of the time.

My recollection is that close order infantry were expected to occupy a box 2' wide by 2.5' deep when firing so I'd go with the 8mm frontage (or less if that's possible).

Leon got £60 of my OA Pension last weekend, he'll need to make that do.

I could put them slightly closer together but I haven't checked all the poses in the pack so I am now expecting to use 8mm as standard.

For this era I do like the closer spacing of figures.

Yes, Shedmans figures are absolutely great, damn his younger eyes.

Thanks - it's the only unit I've done so far.

I think I might drop it to 2 ranks though

Assuming the unit depth is not a problem I would keep the three ranks, looks very in period.

I much prefer the 8mm. I'm thinking of 7.5 myself or perhaps 6.66. Or a combination.

I don't measure. By trial and error I have found two ranks of four looks good on a 25mm square.
