Think I've given up! :o After ploughing through loads of stuff, looking for 'accuracy', I will just go with what I think looks good. White for '40...thereafter, whatever!
Red...or Black! outlined or not! :'( for Desert! lol.
Otherwise, anything goes. Think that if you are not trying to model a specific unit, you should just enjoy the hobby and please yourself. It's like 'French' or 'Union' Blue, 'Russian' green...if the accuracy is blocking you from actually DOING something, then just do whatever you like :o ;D We all want perfection, but if OK looks good enough on YOUR tank, then go with it! Research is great, but. if it is blocking you, then just get your tank on the table! :)

I'm with you, Horseman.
I tend to go plain white or plain black, basically because I think it looks better.
Since my Panzers may adopt the role of any one of a number of divisions, it doesn't really bother me about accuracy to a specific unit. As long as there is a historical precendece and it looks right.
I'm also of the opinion that whatever may have been laid down in regulation may not have been observed to the letter by troops on the front line.
"Hans, there are T34s on the crest."
"Yes, but is the red on this number '4' quite thick enough?"
Yep, I absolutely agree too. I do try to research as well as I can for accuracy, but at some point you either make a decision or it never gets done. Commend you for posting it, and would love to see the tanks you're working on.

Received several sheets of decals from Dom's Decals. Very nice definition and plenty of them. Cut to fit..no messing around with individual figures or two part application. Turret numbers may be a little larger than I was hoping for...to fit Pz III/IV in 10mm, though might do ok on some schemes...but excellent for vehicles with larger surfaces.
German crosses in 1/300 should fit hull sides ok and Brit yellow ring roundels should be fine tor air recognition Tunisia and, I think, early Italy.
Order did take three months to come through but I knew from fora that Dom would get around to them when he could. I imagine there is quite an order pile for a very small operation! If you order, please be patient...the stuff is worth the wait. :) :)
Also got some turret numbers from Mehusla on ebay. The 2mm tall size is great for PzIII / IV and in a range of styles. Delivered in 2 days. Look good quality prints too. :)
