Just had the results of my CT scan.
They found 4 things 'wrong'.......None of them particularly serious, (my back I knew about already !) but I've got to go over to a local hospital this afto'...and may have to stay in overnight (I hope that's all).
One of the things that's 'wrong' almost certainly accounts for the hefferlump leg......Another will need further investigation...But again doesn't sound serious.
Gotta go and pack an overnight bag, just in case they want me to stay in......Better take something to read, as well. =)
See ya soon. ;)........Maybe even this evening...Fingers crossed.
Cheers - Phil. (Who's quite relieved that there was nothing really horrid found.)
If anyone appears with a length of red rubber hose, keep your knees together...

Hope it goes well Phil. On the bright side, they'll have loads of scalpels to play with...
Good luck!
I had a CT scan a year and a bit ago as well as a chest X-ray and a lumbar puncture.
They cut one or two bits out and stitched me up more than once and I'm good to go.
The NHS are pretty good once they've done something.
Hope it goes well, hugs
All the best Phil, always better to get things sorted as soon as possible but rarely fun.
Yup, CT scans - the gift that keeps on giving. If they were mandatory we would all be in hospital.
Good luck, Phil - stiff upper lip and all that!
Good luck fella
So will this delay the Koreans then?
Good luck, Sir.
Best of luck!
Hope all goes well and we hear from you soon
And in Phil's absence - Nobby, you OIK
Come back soon, fit and well.
Best of luck and a speedy recovery
Remember not to take any sculpting tools and armatures into the CT scan ;)
Also, depending on how much broken tool and knife tips and dremel wheels you've currently got embedded, you may want warn them about anomolous results on the images :o
More seriously, good luck, hope it turns up quickly sortable issues and you're better soon as!

Yeah, I know, I was thinking the same.
I was going to wait until 'lunchtime' then give a call!
I know that waiting for the ward rounds for the all-clear then getting the discharge processed can take a frustrating amount of time. Anyone with recent hospital experience know what time he's likely to get out?
Cheers!
Meirion
Depends on both Phil and the ward, I was in for a v. quick day surgery recently-ish, but had a bad reaction to the aneasthetic and didn't leave till 7pm - despite being out of surgery by about quarter to ten in the morning! Other times they're so busy that finding the appropriate someones to sign someone out takes bloody hours. Makes them annoyed (they need the bed), makes the patient annoyed, but as the alternative is just bunging people out the door without checking they're actually ok I think I'll take it...
Belated best wishes.
MickS
Best wishes Phil, I hope all goes Ok

Been in and out at least three times in the last couple of years.
Was released once on schedule, was kept once overnight as surgery took longer than planned and a third time waited 8 hours for a discharge paper.
Hope everything is OK
... or at least that Mrs T knows where the Koreans are.
Would be grateful if anyone does hear anything. I miss his skeletal presence.
It's only 1.00 pm here in the UK so perhaps early yet considering you have to wait for the consultant to do his rounds, give the go ahead for discharge plus having to wait in the ward for your medication from the hospital pharmacy.
Having said that I think Von will have to take him a few books - I hope I am wrong but, in my experience of the NHS, "for investigation" means don't be surprised if it takes a few more days before they complete their investigations and Phil gets back home again. Good luck, Phil.
... so, what mischief can we get up to in the meantime. :)
Just left a message of goodwill on his answerphone, so no news yet.
I'll try again this evening if he doesn't show up in the meantime!

Okay, serious post time!
Spoke to Von – Mrs Techno – earlier: Phil's fine and fairly happy, just "extremely fed up" - ~X( :'( :Ph - with being stuck in hospital.
It's not my place to go into too many details, so I'll just say they're managing to alleviate his condition, but are still investigating the root cause so he's going to have another scan tomorrow morning.
More info if I hear anything.
Cheers!
Meirion
Thanks for the update, hope he's feeling better soon.
Sounds fairly positive, hope things get sorted out soon.
Meirion, thanks again for updating us.
Cheers for the update, hope the next scan gives some answers and a way forward.
Thanks for the fairly positive update
Thanks for the update. Hope they can sort Methuselah out
Just wanted to post again just in case I sounded a bit too negative in my previous message!
Mrs T said Phil was fine in himself, just not at all happy about being stuck in hospital.
I think I'm not divulging too much to say that Phil's got a gammy leg. Whilst they're managing to alleviate his symptoms, they've not managed to ascertain what's causing the issue - hence all the tests and re-tests.
Whilst I know Phil has my number, I'm not sure Mrs T has access to it, so if Phil doesn't return to our warm and loving embrace by tomorrow evening I'll give them another bell.
I passed on all our best wishes and they were gratefully received.
Cheers,
Meirion
That's good to hear. Hopefully the scan will give them some answers and they can turn him loose.
I read that as "jammy leg" and wondered whether it was his eyesight or his unsteady hands that was leading him to miss the toast.

For the squeamish ........I'd stop reading here.
Some of you will laugh your socks off !.
You have been warned......
You have been warned......
You have been warned......
You have been warned......
You have been warned......
OK....This will be fairly brief.....Though I'm back home, I feel absolutely knackered now.
The original CT scan showed that my bladder was massively distended.......I'd put it down to being old age spread around the tum.
First night I was in, I was catheterised and they emptied my bladder of something around 3 litres of wee.
I was kept in for more tests....Another doppler scan...which again showed that there was no sign of any clots......and was kept on a catheter......I don't know how much they ended up draining in total....But my tum has gone back to being flat.
The drawback is that because my bladder is now capable (having been gradually stretched) of holding so much wee, I now have to keep peeing, even if I don't feel the need.
As I can't actually force the wee out, as the bladder is so large, I had two options.
1) A catheter, and a bag, strapped to the leg....which would need emptying when full......and this to be completely 'redone' every three months. This option is apparently the less favoured as it makes 'one' more liable to bladder infections.
So I've gone for option.....
2) Self catheterisation every 3 hours or more (but hopefully not through the night).........So.......Every 3 hours or so I have to slide a single use tube up 'you know where', and into the bladder. drain it into a measure, and make a note of how much wee has come out, so I can report back to the specialist nurse in a couple of weeks. (This is even if I feel I DON'T need a wee at the time.)
Nothing like as bad as you might imagine......You just have to be very careful NOT to let the sterile tube get any dirt on it, so you don't inadvertently introduce infection into the bladder itself.
Apparently I'm gong to be getting boxes full of these tubes delivered each time I start getting low on supplies.
If this works, as intended, my bladder will gradually reduce from its overstretched size and act more normally.
I've got to have an MRI scan , as an outpatient, to check there isn't anything nastily suspicious on the prostate.....Which I'll never be surprised I'll be told would be better to be removed, whatever the outcome....We'll see.
There are a couple of tiny 'ground glass') marks on my lungs which also have to be investigated, to check that they're not pre-cancerous. (Doc didn't sound very worried about though.)
And there are a couple of tiny marks on my liver.....But there was no mention of checking those at the moment.
I've written far more than I intended, for the mo', as I feel so, SO knackered......(two of the nights, I barely got any sleep, because of a couple of other patients were very 'disturbed' (suffering from dementia ?), and were making an awful lot of noise throughout the night.......and I found the hospital bed unbelievably uncomfortable for my back, anyway.
I can't wait to sleep in my own bed tonight.
Again.......Thanks to all for the kind wishes.
Nobby....Don't worry....As far as Leon is concerned, I'm about two months ahead of schedule.
Meirion...Thanks for checking in with Von, and your post updating the gang.
More soon....But almost certainly not tonight.
Best wishes - Phil
Best wishes Phil.
I wouldn't worry to much about little marks on your lungs. I had 'shadows' on my lungs 40 years ago but I still managed to run marathons and I'm still here today. Do get them checked though.
I've also got 'marks' on my liver (I used to drink like a fish) which got a close inspection while I was opened up for something else. Just a birth mark apparently. Still best to check.
On the plus side all the checks and tests and investigations that I've had over the years have told me that I haven't got lots of other things wrong with me.
Keep on truckin'.
Jim
Phew! Glad all is non too serious. #:-S
Rather you than me mate, but it sounds like it's all in hand, so to speak.
Good to hear from you, Phil! Rest and get well.

So, what about the overlarge leg?
Good to see you back, Phil. :-bd

Blimey Phil. Glad that the overwhelming prognosis is good, even if in the short term it sounds bloody uncomfortable.
I think CT scans often pick up a couple of 'possibles' that require further tests to confirm that everything is normal.
At least you can now reply to anyone who calls you fat, by saying it's not fat it's just wee. Perhaps that doesn't help ;)

Let's put it like this, I just stole this from my brothers faceache feed (astrophysicist doctor at Warwick)
"So you know how in cartoons, when they have giant magnets that suck in large objects and it all seems a bit silly? Turns out 14 Tesla is easily enough to pilfer a chair from 2 metres away. Whoops."

I installed the IT systems on an MRI scanner in the Vet School.
Before entering the room we had to leave behind all metallic objects, keys, belt buckles, coins, all magnetic media, phones, credit cards as these would distort the magnetic field or be changed by it. Was never allowed entrance during sessions when the magnet was 'on', only a vet and an animal handler and a horse.
Never understood how the MRI engineer didn't bother.
John Cleese goes to the vet and asks for a confirmation that his parrot is in fact dead. Vet warns him it won't be cheap. Parrot is laid out on the steel table.
Enter a Labrador dog; sniffs at bird, looks at Cleese, shakes a sad head, exits. Enter a Siamese cat, who leaps onto the table, inspects the bird, looks at Cleese, shakes a sad head, exits.
"Sorry, this parrot really is no more. That'll be five hundred pounds, please."
"FIVE HUNDRED?!"
"Two hundred for the lab report, three hundred for the cat scan."
;D
I'm guessing the cat was more expensive because it only came in when it felt like it.
Nice to hear that you are back home Phil and that all looks to be well.

Had a couple of 'strange' calls from one of the hospitals I always seem to be frequenting these days, this morning.
Call 1 )...Head Nurse (Of some department) phoned up to see if I could go in for a chat about something relatively trivial, tomorrow.......
"I'm really sorry, (Her name).....But I've got to go down to the local surgery tomorrow morning, already.......I'm really not going to have time to drive all the way to the hospital, and back, after that." (I've got to get SOME bloody work done !.....Though I didn't say that).
Call 2).....Hello, Mr Lewis....(Same nurse)....If you're in after you've been to see the Doctor in the morning.....Can one of my colleagues pop round and visit you at home, early afternoon, for the chat.
"Yeah, fine."
Well, I certainly can't complain about all the care and attention they're giving me, at the mo'.

I suspect this has been arranged by Nobby to cheer you up!. This "Nurse" is probably one of Miss Whiplash's " Friends". Who will turn up at your door in a long coat which when removed will show a very short low cut "uniform" that shows off her suspenders and stockings nicely. theoretically I won't have to see them for three months....Then we start on the jabs, again. (Apparently !)
What with the two trips to different hospitals over the next few weeks, for "chats", so they tell me.....and then another CT scan and an MRI to come after those (probably)......I don't think I'll be staying away from the surgery for a whole three months. =)

Most of that 'down' was probably caused by the almost total lack of sleep on Tuesday....Which has really finally caught up with me.

Hi Phil,

The local anaesthetic might also be responsible in some way for your feeling low.
Remember things could be a lot worse:-
All of us could turn up on your doorstep to wish you well personally. This would probably qualify for the Guinness Book of Records world record as " The biggest collection of slightly insane weirdos"
FSN could come down and look after you.
You could live in Wales!
So Go and watch "Life of Brian" as you should "always look on the bright side of life " :)
We're holidaying round your way come July, so if you're not better I'll bring the over excited toddler and grumpy missus round to cheer you up :D
Now there's an incentive to be well ;)
Hang in there.
Get well soon Phil!!
Thanks, Guys :)
Cheers - Phil
I hope you are on the mend soon Phil.
My eldest daughter was recently rushed into hospital by ambulance and received excellent care, even 'jumping' the queue of trolley/bed bound patients in the corridor. The NHS work wonders even though they are short staffed and under-funded.
I hope your daughter is recovering Bodvoc
Same here !

I was very favourably impressed by them while living in the UK.

Happily she is now fully recovered and back at school.

Splendid stuff, Bodvoc!
