Well it looks a little something like this Borodino game!
There were three main tables, each about 36x6ft in size, plus a separate table for the village of Utitza. They started playing on Saturday evening with the two forces advancing and then meeting on the middle table on Sunday evening I believe. We went down to visit them on Monday as it was the best time to get photos of all the figures on the table. They're aiming to finish the game on Tuesday, flip sides and do it all again through 'til Friday night.

Rules used were 'In The Grandest Manner' by Ged Elliott, the chap running this megagame.

:o
One word - WOW!
Terry
That is something else!!! What a table of figures. :)
Wow :o. You certainly get the impression that the only tactic was a frontal assault as there looks to be sod all room to manouevre!
I suppose it does give the impression of an actual battle, but like an actual battle it's difficult to take in all that is going on. I suppose it serves a certain purpose, but the setting up and taking down would be too much like hard work for me, so, no, not for me.
Blimey!
:o :o :o :o :o :o :o
Cheers - Phil

There wasn't much space at this point! I think the manoeuvring had been done on the Sat/Sun and then this was the point the two forces collided. They're continuing to fight over the redoubt today, hopefully to a conclusion tonight.
Awesome................... =D> =D> =D>
How much does 40,000 figures weigh?
A number of good shots there whilst others are a tad overwhelming. Scale? A couple of figure poses look like Pendraken sculpts.

The 10,000 foot and 2200 cavalry we dropped off at the same time weighed 22kg, so about 75kg for the ones on the table?

All 10mm and about 90% Pendraken figures. The others are Redline I believe.
It's really amazing looking, but I agree that it looks a bit over-whelming as well.
It does a bit, I have to agree there, I've no idea how they manage to keep track of it all. I think if we'd gone a day earlier/later we'd have seen the forces more spread out and a bit less cluttered as they moved into position.
Impressive to see - almost dizzyingly so. I do think of the many cases of backache such a game would produce. :)
Impressive certainly but just a bit impractical, looks like total chaos.
That's war for you.
Thats both impressive and crazy. I can't actually see how a game like that would be fun, with just so much stuff to move, and the only move available being to plod forwards.
I thought that my gaming group had some big armies, but frankly this makes us look like beginners ;)

I'm impressed that they are now buying figures off Pendraken by weight though.

:D
They're being flown over to Bangladesh to be painted up so they needed all the bags weighing and marking.

Not so much beginners as balanced in mind and sensible.
Well that's not been said before :o :D
Wow :o to many for me to handle
Take care

Very impressive, but probably should come with a health warning for those who get nightmares about their own lead mountains
It is really impressive.
Unfortunately the table is suffering from war-game clutter: reams of paper, plastic containers, styrofoam cups (?). It does rather detract from what I'm presuming is supposed to be a magnificent spectacle. The problem of the massive game that takes up every inch of space is where to put al the non-model material needed to run a game. I find myself fighting more smaller in area games, but still on a 6x4 so that there is room for charts, rulebooks, pens, paper, dice, coffee cups, etc.
That seems eminently sensible, Leman. While I find that I am committed to playing my Celtic Fringe historic battles on a 6' x 4' (which uses every square inch - with some overhang - of my largest table), I then must setup auxillary tables just to hold all the other necessary stuff!
I'm in the process of discovering the joy of playing on a 3 x 3. Heck, I finally even broke down and bought a battle mat! :)
Blimey - the real thing only took 12 hours, not 3 days! If I had the luxury of a whole week to wargame, I'd want to get a lot more than two games in. More like twenty, please. (We fought the entire 9-battle Franco-Prussian War BBB campaign in a 3-day weekend once.)
But I suppose it's a bit like all the different formats of cricket. Not many people get to see every day of a 5-Test Ashes series and while for some it would be the pinnacle, not every cricket fan would want to, or maybe just once would be enough, while plenty of people prefer one-dayers, some only like 20/20, and then to get the kids involved there is Kwik Kricket ... (apologies to any members who don't have a clue what I'm talking about).
I see from Ged Elliott's Situation Room BlogSpot
http://gerryjelliottsituation.blogspot.co.uk/
that this isn't just a one-off. Presumably Ged has a happy crowd of regulars who enjoy such megagames. In which case, well done and good luck to 'em all, I say!

Kwik-Kricket is awesome! 8)
Similar to astronomical distances, that is rather mind-boggling. Impressive but mind-boggling.

Quite a spectacle but strangely unappealing.
Too many figures all crammed together - too much clutter detracting from
what should be an amazing spectacle and not enough terrain. Something
like this should be a jaw dropping moment (the culmination of so much
effort) but, because of the above, it loses a lot of its appeal for me.
Wot he said.
Looks pretty awesome to me :-bd
A fine testicle...I mean spectacle . Seriously heartwarming stuff!
Sad to say, I have to agree with Glorfindel and fsn. :(

Yeah. You can almost imagine a player getting confused and firing on his own soldiers.
I induced a careless opponent to shoot his own C-in-C with a crossbow once. Great moment when he realised what he'd done. ;D
Really impressed.
Which ruleset was palying?
