Title: Early Cold War
Post by: Sunray on 06 January 2017, 11:49:16 AM
With the abundance of real conflict Korean types and AVFs starting to appear, the prospect of gaming early Cold War Europe becomes  playable.

True we are missing Soviet infantry après 1948 (indeed we are short of all post war Soviet troops) But WW2 types will do at a pinch and some Korean codes may be in helmet and SKS carbine ?

I have gamed this era in 6mm and it means WW2 Germanic scenery and kit can be used. Has anyone else played it?  I suspect when Pendraken soviets do appear they will be AK47 armed and 1960s era tunics.

The British Falklands stuff is good for 1st line troops from roughly 65, need similar in 38 or 44 webbing prior to that. The 38 kit was still being issued until the 1970's, and is distinctive compared to 58 pattern. (Phil it's the WWII webbing).

Soviets - the organisation was not changed much til 56, but I suspect the uniforms changed earlier. The SKS doesn't seem to have been widely issued, since the AK series could replace both rifles and SMG's, and the Russian Rilfe was not the best available.

I was thinking earlier than 1965, using Korea Brits and Americans (and South Koreans) and WW2 Brits and Korean Royal Marines.
The SKS and a tunic would have been Soviet kit in the 1950s.

Did Korea have its own Royal Marines? Thought it was a democracy/junta?

Sorry, its the curse of the thread - I meant (British) Royal Marines from the Pendraken Korean range .   Very useful figures in berets but US uniform and weapons that would fit several NATO countries prior to adoption of FN 7.62.

Thanks, thought I'd missed a whole arm of the war...
