Title: 7yw Prussian dragoons
Post by: slinky on 20 December 2016, 11:16:10 AM
Hi guys, any suggestions on which infantry code I could use as dismounted dragoons?

Good question. I don't know.  :-[

But. Its got me thinking Klein Krieg and so, possible further expansion of my own SYW collection. Hopefully someone will know .... but if not, here are my thoughts.

The SYW Prussian infantry code figures will have infantry packs, haversacks, bayonets, etc., so perhaps unsuitable. So unless the Prussian Jagers don't (perhaps someone will have a photo of the Jagers? Do they have packs, etc.?), how about nipping over to the AWI range? OK, different sculpts (and slightly chunkier?) but, as these will be standing in their own unit on their own, we could probably get away with it. Code would be Hessian Jagers AWG6.

The jager figures do not have packs, so may be suitable. You might also want to take a look at both the jagers and the Freikorps produced by Old Glory in their 10mm grand scale range.

I find I can never afford to dismount my dragoons; I need all the HC I can get.

It appears that after further investigation, Prussian dragoons rarely dismounted so I think I'll do likewise. Thanks for the advice guys

In a pitched battle, that would be so. But in kleine klieg (small /skirmish type actions), then 'yes' - cavalry would dismount to fight with their carbines from time time. So, it really depends on what types of action you intend to fight.

Well the jäger figures worked a treat, had enough left over to make a dismounted unit!
